Do you carry a revolver? What kind and why?

A revolver is a nice tool in the box to have, simple, reliable, doesn’t need a holster being double action for spur of the moment needs.

I’ll holster a S&W 642 w/135gr Speer Gold Dot hollow points when going downstairs to do laundry or take out the trash (daylight). Otherwise it’s in my backpocket open when going to car before 4/5am to start work. 2 speedloaders, 1 speedstrip in my go bag as well, along with Glock 26 subcompact 9mm and extra mags, trauma kit, etc. Otherwise main carry is Glock 19 9mm, though just picked up great deal S&W MP Shield 9mm for more concealable comfy option with certain clothes. Comfort aside, most handguns can be carried, just have to dress around it, larger size or patterns with waves that hide printing.

Snubbie makes a nice backup piece as well, I’ve a Galco ankle holster. Speaking of holsters, The Galco Sto-N-Go STO158 model will hold snubbie to 1911 to Glocks all types subcompact to large frame guns types (except larger double stack .45 or 10mm). Nice to have in tool box.

My snubbie has had “action” job done, some polishing and also spring kit for smoother slightly less pounds on the trigger pull. Big difference in accuracy. Also had the sights highlighted. But really they are so small this is more point and shoot close range. Aim center of mass and way barrel points the rounds will hit 5 inches up. I practiced in the wilds of the Ozarks and drawing at moderate speed snap shots can hit maximum out to 36 yards, that included winged shoulder hits. Slow squeeze shots are something else, but defensive situation don’t foresee that.

For something small for higher accuracy (face shots 25 yds) I’d go to Glock 42 .380acp I’ll carry as backup, deep deep concealment or running, biking (daylight).

I’ve seen many here say that it’s just not enough firepower being limited to 5 or 6 rounds and I see the point. But I’m not sure what they expect is going to happen is reality. Reality is your going to try and get yourself out of the fight as soon a possible not sit there and swap rounds with the bad guy like your Rambo. As far as the power of the 38 Special all I can say is you start shooting and it’s a game changer. Poke a hole or two and it’s a major game changer. Hell just displaying a weapon will probably change most bad guys plans, they’re not noted for their heroic’s. Another fine little revolver is the S&W model 63 in 22 LR with an 8 round capacity. And before somebody screams 22 LR? Just remember the Reagan assassination attempt. 6 shots fired 4 hits, 3 disabled and on the ground with Reagan taking one in the chest. Like I said earlier. Start poling holes and it’s a major game changer.

Load a .357 with a top load of Blue Dot powder and talk about muzzle flash.

I'm late to this thread. But I carry a Taurus .357 SS hammerless snubby. First round is .357 next 4 are .38P+. Why? The .357 round at full throat is an attention-grabber. It is not easily mistaken for a fire cracker or car backfire.

About a year ago, I fired some VERY cheap ammo through that Taurus. I fired two shots. Both of my hands had powder burns but my left hand was actually stained for about a week. And the lead was so soft if filled in the barrel striations. I never saw so much fire from a modern fire arm. If fired at night, in self defense, it would blind and make def everyone around. I threw the ammo away after that (can't remember the brand).

Speaking of holsters and lessons learned. I offer the following embarrassing lesson learned for the benefit of all who doubt having multiple holsters for varying attire and situations.... Long road trip late at night with the family. I am wearing sweat pants (comfy clothes for the drive). We stop at a rest area for a bathroom break. I have to Obama. I put my .357 snubby in my pocket and go to the restroom with my family. Not many people there, but a father and his young son follow me in. I go to stall, and pull my sweat pants down as the father and son walk in. my .357 falls out of the pocket hits the floor and bounces/slides about 2' out under the stahl door. I crawl forward, pants still half down, out to reach under the door to snatch my weapon back up and sit back on the toilet. I hear the child say to his father, "Daddy, that was a gun!" The father starts trying to shush him and the kid insists, "But that man had a gun..." I only heard whispering after that as I sat in deep contemplation of my REALLY careless stupidity. I still carry that revolver and it still has the scar on the end of the barrel where it hit the floor. It's a constant and valuable reminder.

After that, when wearing ultra comfy clothes, I go with a belly band. I have holsters for all guns for all attire now. With Belt, without belt, suit, shorts, etc. I also have several holsters that were a bad choice.
