Ancient Chinese gastronomic delicacies often cause oohs and ahhs on food holidays. On August 22, National Bao Day guarantees your taste buds will be shouting Wow!
At first one might consider it to be just a simple steamed bun. Dumplings aside, this is the flavorful Chinese dough used to make bāozi, or bao and is stuffed with savory meats or sweets. More than a side dish, bao is a type of sandwich which has been gaining popularity in the United States.
There are excellent reasons, too! Created as an elegant package, bao fits in the palm of the hand making it portable. Bao satisfies with all our favorite flavors. From spicy to sweet, BBQ and Thai, this little sandwich covers breakfast, lunch, supper and dessert. Still hungry? Theyre great snacks and perfect for sharing, too.

Worked with a Chinese lady once.
On holidays she would bring Chinese food for us.
Her dumplings were heaven on earth with her homemade dipping sauces.
Lost track of her over the years.
I miss her homemade heaven.
He WAS great in Joanie Loves Chachi!
(actually I never saw it)
Oh, Baio.....
Punk...I could’uh swore I thought of him first......
Kinda reminds me of (gasp) TGIF Friday’s and their pot stickers. They were discounted to 1/2 price during the evening rush hour. I’d call ahead for 2 orders.
Add the lettuce and ginger soy....great stuff.
Up scale White Castle burger!
Jalapeno and cheese please, yes one dozen.
Xiao long bao (Shanghai pork dumplings) - greatest food on Earth. :)
You are correct. Xiao long bao, also known as soup dumplings, are amazing. The broth inside the dumplings is what makes the difference. There are a couple of places in Toronto and Montreal where you can order them a dozen at a time with different meats and herbs inside. I can usually polish off 3 dozen.
Spicy Jamaican meat pies...I forget the name...are good and readily available around here. About the size of a burger.
And, she used the SS folding steamer basket, rather than the Chinese woven ones.
