and it was Graham who first used the word “solid” immediately after the speech...
What more do you want?
How about having him stop killing and maiming our sons and daughters for an unwinnable war—like he promised?
How about not continuing the failed and costly W and Barry strategies?
Barry wasn’t for “nation building” either. And is smacking Pakistan in public what we really want? Okay, so he’s not announcing troop levels and dates. Is that really going to change anything, since that’s more or less what W did for 8 years, without success.
Oh, and not announcing troop levels is putting the neocon fox McMaster in charge of the chicken coop.
Give this strategy a chance. President Trump came into an impossible situation. His strategy seems to be working in Syria/Iraq. We’d heard rumors that he’d announce a specific troop increase. That didn’t happen....makes me think the Masters of War were expecting something very different when they leaked that.
Nope. I don’t give McMaster’s strategy a chance—including that they are trying to minimize complaints about it by not announcing the size of the troop increase. Could ultimately be as big as the 50k McMaster reportedly originally was looking for.
And Syria is working? With McMaster’s hoped-for 150k-troop surge and “regime change”?
That was my take on Trump’s speech, too! I especially liked that he said we were no longer into nation building (for democracies, like Bush and Obama tried and failed to do).
And is smacking Pakistan in public what we really want?

He didn’t specifically refer to ROE in the speech, but months ago he was clear that he was giving the green light to the leaders in the field to make decisions and take action. I think ROEs have been done away with for the most part.
I am fully aware of them. And while we’re on that subject, I refer you to Andy McCarthy’s latest piece:
The Trump admin is clearly minimizing and letting them off the hook. Now, it could be because they didn’t get around to even nominating a new US attorney for the district until June, and so the Obama carryovers are in charge still—as with so much of the government.
Oh, and they did announce a 4,000 troop increase—via a “senior administration official” (likely McMaster, Pence or Trump) speaking off the record.
Combine that with Trump saying they won’t announce troop numbers means that they got the modest 4,000 figure out in the news—and won’t necessarily announce more as they could send 10s of thousands (like the 50,000 that McMaster has reportedly advocated) in without telling the American people about it.

Yes. He has removed the limitations Obama placed on our leaders in the field. Further, WDC will not micromanage the action.
