Did China Hack The 7Th Fleet?
Real Clear Defense ^ | Faiysir | Omaid

Today the USS McCain collided a merchant vessel, marking the 4th incident in the past year at the Navy. The timeline is as follows:

8/19/2016 — USS Louisiana 5/09/2017 — USS Lake Champlain 6/17/2017 — USS Fitzgerald 8/21/2017 — USS McCain These ships share similarities, they are all based in Yokosuka Naval Base, and the USS McCain & USS Fitzgerald are both part of Destroyer Squadron 15 and the Seventh Fleet.

While accidents and mistakes do happen, the number of collisions in the past year is extremely rare, and it is now within the realm of possibility that these accidents were not accidents. Both China and Russia have tested their cyber-warfare capabilities at sea with success.

I don't see how this would be the case when a ship probably relies less on modern technology (in terms of actually operating it safely) than almost any other form of transportation.

A more likely scenario would be that this is the inevitable result of eight years of incompetent, politically driven leadership in the U.S. military -- and the Navy in particular.

A quick internet search on Ray Mabus, the U.S. Secretary of the Navy under Obama, will tell you all you need to know about this stupidity.

“until it is no longer in the nation’s interest to keep the hack a secret”

A hack caused this? How do you know?

I didn’t know it was possible to hack the brains of dozens simultaneously...and from afar no doubt.

Tell us more.

I don’t know, but once or twice is gross carelessness at the captain’s level for not ensuring that the crew is well trained. Four times is carelessness at a much higher level by some admirals who are not ensuring that the captains are well trained. That’s my guess anyway.

“The Chicoms hacked these ships and there is no doubt about this anymore.”

Sheer ignorance.

Exactly. This talk about some kind of conspiracy is nonsense.

US Navy ships have always been, and in my understanding, still do have human watchstanders as the last line of defense at all times while at sea 24x7.

Even if radar was jammed with some kind of device or GPS altered, or who knows what other kind of conspiracy people come up with, there are supposed to be multiple sets of human eyes hooked to human brains all feeding information into sound powered phones even if all electricity is gone.

When I was in, falling asleep on a watch, even ashore, was a serious infraction and was treated as such. At 05:24 local time, there should have been enough light if watches were awake and alert.

Which makes me think the watches were not awake and alert.

I am beginning to wonder if watchstanding has become an exercise in gun-decking, and sleeping on watch is no longer enforced with anything more than a verbal reprimand.

The government damn well should initiate a far-reaching investigation and training overhaul (Separate of any Naval investigation).

People laugh at me when I disparage all this damned useless sensitivity training, sexual harassment training, and every thing else under the sun that has absolutely no bearing on the military capability of a ship or execution of warfare, but this stinks to high heaven of a military service corroded from within, poor discipline, poor training.

Obama and his administration promoted a black woman to full admiral who had zero experience on warships (a support ship only) and did this over the advancement of dozens of other naval officers who had sterling and relevant naval service records.

Anyone who thinks that does not have a large deleterious effect on the service and its operations has no idea what they are talking about.

"GPS failed on both the US ship and the other ship involved."

GPS can be spoofed, apparently, for multiple platforms in the same area. See here

"On board radar failed on the same."

Radar can be fooled.

"Physical sighting failed on the same."

Did these incidents happen at night? Do they still use lookouts?

Your response is spinning out of control. What leads you to conclude I refer to a hack of the minds of those on the bridge? I responded to the "hack" referred to in the title and for the purpose of responding with my post treated the possiblity as real.

As a matter of fact, I believe those on the bridge were fully competent, quite alert and acted on information they believed was accurate. A lot of folks, including myself, will be surprised if we are looking at the result of negligence.

1) our ships are running silent to obfuscate their position and direction
2) 0bama promoted incompetent sailors. The good ones took early retirement

” A lot of folks, including myself, will be surprised if we are looking at the result of negligence.”

That’s because you are completely ignorant of maritime operations in the US Navy.

Hacked. That’s funny right there.

Be that as it may, is no one standing watch??? Do they not see the big freaking ships approaching? Are the OODs so inept that they cannot call for evasive maneuvers? Or is there too much reliance upon gadgetry? Time for a command change in the 7th Fleet and a return to basic seamanship. CINCPAC should be chitting bricks.

Oh f***ing bullpuckey. This is incompetence and a Navy where promotions are done on the buddy system. The Nav would love to blame it on conspiracy. The Flag ranks are as bad or worse than they were before WW2.

Well it is persuasive that human intelligence (such as it is) may indeed be the result of the four recent collisions at sea. If confirmed, the implications of a derelict U.S. Navy is staggering. Couple these four events with the events surrounding the Iranian boarding and capture of a U.S. Naval vessel and perhaps a very, very troubling picture of the current state of the U.S. Navy begins to emerge. Wow.

It is not obvious to me what role GPS would have in either of these incidents.

RADAR is the culprit. It failed in both cases to send an alarm that A POTENTIALLY ENEMY VESSEL WAS ON A COLLISION PATH.

That’s not rocket science. I doubt seriously if the Chinese or the Russians had anything to do with it.

The radar system failed in both cases. Fix your your radar, Navy.
