Live long and prosper: William Shatner creates portrait of Spock composed of Trekkie selfies in tribute to Leonard Nimoy.

William Shatner has created the ultimate tribute to his former Star Trek co-star Leonard Nimoy - a portrait of Spock composed entirely of Trekkie selfies.

The incredible picture is made up of thousands of fans giving the Vulcan 'live long and prosper' salute in a moving homage to Nimoy who passed away aged 83 in February of this year.

Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in the original sci fi series, appealed for the selfies on Twitter earlier this month without letting on what the pictures were for.

You don’t have to be a great artist to do this. It helps if you have professional guidance or personal crafting experience.
There are many services today that will take any photo you have and print a T-Shirt or a hat or a ceramic cup with that image.
One could take the same process and add an overlay of (impasto-like) texture to produce a mosaic effect as shown here.

One need not be an artist to generate such a picture. One simply has to have the necessary software. Then one uploads the thousands of individual little images (here: of the thousands of fans) and the single main image (here: of Leonard Nimoy giving the Vulcan salute taken from the episode "Amok Time"*), and the program automatically generates the composite image.

Regards,

*Yes, I admit that I'm a Trekkie - look for me in the palm of Spock's right hand.

I started building up the arrays of image links back in Feb 2012. All the images from that landscape page go to individual Daily Mail pages. When it got too much, I switched over to text links that I kept up to share with a friend.

I'm going back to make some more music videos besides the Art Images from Daily Mail music video I posted lately, so I'm chunking through the whole set of links to collect images. This article was just a joy and made me laugh.

Thrilled to learn this. Had no idea. Have seen them before but have always been awe-struck. Well, still am, even with software help.

The farther you are from these types of images the better they look...I blurred this image to show the effect

There is a unique optical effect related to this...here is the famous Einstein/Monroe image...the farther you get from the image the less it looks like Einstein and the more it looks like Marilyn Monroe.

There is a graphic plug-in that can do this.
