I am shocked at all of the eyeglasses being given out everywhere, even at my kid's school. I have explain over and over again to my boys the risk of them. I seriously expect and dread seeing in the news next week reports of people all across the country having eye injuries. Especially stupid people like that idiot woman in the Dallas area asking to have the solar eclipse reschedule to the weekend so her kids wouldn't miss school on Monday).

We are taking the day off--driving up to John Day, Oregon (about 8 hours away) to camp and then watch the eclipse in the morning. For this we are making a solar observatory (variation of a pinhole telescope, but with mounts for iPhones to record). Not sure if 16 hours of round-trip driving is worth the 2 minute and 7 second eclipse, but they are insistent on going.

Provided it’s not obscured by clouds, it’s a very memorable thing. I think you’ll find it worth the trip. I’m driving up to Qualla Boundary in the NC Smokies to see it with family, the Eastern Cherokee have some ceremonies planned there that should add to the surreality and enjoyment of the moment.

Is it worth it? From my experience yes. But only if viewed safely. It is not worth damaging ones eyesight.

The hour or so run up before and hour after are still cool to see. It realy is more fun than for just 3 minutes. Thats just the climax.

When was the last time you had a 3 minute climax?
