Deputies say a homeowner shot a man during an apparent botched home invasion early Wednesday morning in Escondido.
The homeowner called 911 a little after 1:30 a.m. to report the incident in the 15000 block of Highland Road, a San Diego County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman said.
Deputies said a man knocked on the homeowner's door saying he was being chased and asking for money to pay for a taxi.

This homeowner is likely to be in trouble. How dare you stop a criminal?
I wish I read this news in the morning. That way my day would be great again. But I can settle for a great evening
If the intruder is you know what, the homeowner does not have a chance.

“WAAAAAIIISIS!!!!!”
We know the home invasion was botched because the perp was shot by the home owner.
In a successful home invasion, the homeowner is dead.
How can you call someone a criminal, when he's just an undocumented resident.
Good news. Good shooting, Citizen. Civilization thanks you.
If the homeowner has to have a “tall fence topped with barbed wire” around this place, I question his judgement on living in that neighborhood. He could easily end up riddled with bullet holes before this is over.
Homeowner could be a woman.
Yes. What’s the point of having a tall fence topped with barbed wire when one can just walk up to the door?
