Charles Krauthammer: Let’s Face It, Trump’s Press Conference Today Was A Moral Disgrace
Hotair ^ | 08/15/2017 | AllahPundit

If Trump is the Republican id, this exchange between Laura Ingraham and Krauthammer is a dialogue between the ego and superego. Ingraham, a nationalist, is all about the agenda. Was Trump’s presser today a good thing? Well, she says, he made some solid points — but it wasn’t useful. It didn’t advance the ball on policy. Krauthammer, a conservative, isn’t interested in that right now. Was it moral, he asks? Was it right?

I wonder how many variations of this exchange are playing out within the administration tonight. Watch this quickie clip of Chuck Todd speculating that John Kelly’s going to end up having to talk people out of quitting over today’s spectacle. Um, I doubt it. Since when do Republicans balk at anything Trump does?

WATCH: @chucktodd: Pres. Trump has likely lost moral authority to speak for the country, and the Republican Party. https://t.co/oRlP3nmCy6

— NBC Nightly News (@NBCNightlyNews) August 15, 2017

Kelly himself is reportedly not a happy man this evening:

Uh-oh a source tells @SaraMurray new White House Chief of Staff John Kelly is very frustrated with how today played out.

— Shimon Prokupecz (@ShimonPro) August 15, 2017

He looked every inch of it standing off to Trump’s side during today’s presser.

Oh — this guy was unhappy too. I know, I know: He’s a cuck.

No, not the same. One side is racist, bigoted, Nazi. The other opposes racism and bigotry. Morally different universes.

— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) August 16, 2017

Somehow the back and forth between Ingraham and Krauthammer ends with them debating whether Trump’s statement yesterday, in which he denounced white nationalists after hedging on Saturday, reflects what’s actually in his heart or not. If you don’t believe the reporting on that, just watch the guy talk. When Trump is reading from a script, it’s abundantly clear. He speaks more slowly and his sentences are conspicuously more measured than when he’s rat-a-tat riffing on his thoughts, as he obviously was today. What happened the past few days isn’t complicated. He softballed his comments about the alt-right on Saturday, was cajoled by his aides into saying something more emphatic about them yesterday, then resented the fact that he’d been pressured into clarifying his remarks and decided to double down on the “both sides” point today off the cuff. Yesterday’s statement almost amounted to an apology for Saturday’s comments, and you know how Trump feels about apologies. Today he un-apologized.

“Trump made good points that echoed with his base. Did he persuade anyone that wasn’t already persuaded? Probably not. Thus lies the problem”

I don’t know - Trump is so underestimated it’s not even funny.

When he started with the - Today Lee, tomorrow, Jackson, who’s next week, Washington?, Jefferson?

That was jaw-droppingly good debatesmanship - even better than “because you’d be in jail” (the sentence that won the election.

It’s revealing that the media doesn’t want antifa and blm to be criticized as violent.

Reminds me of how the Germany media covered the rise of Nazism. Krauthammer should think about what will happen when the Antifa, BLM and Big Global Media come for him.

Hotair is still #NeverTrump.

Trump spoke the truth, which is politically incorrect. Antifa and BLM have been committing violence all over the country. They are hate groups just like the KKK, Neo-Nazis, and white supremacists. Any objective person could look at the acts of mob violence committed over the past year and see who is predominantly involved.

And there is the issue of free speech whether it is the Nazis marching in Skokie in 1978 or the "white supremacists" in Charlottesville, VA. Both had permits and were exercising the right of free speech. The reaction in 1978 was quite different than it is today. The biggest casualty is free speech. Just ask someone walking down the street in any major city wearing a red MAGA hat.

No that’s wrong. They applied for a permit well in advance we’re denied a judge overturned that and gave them the permit. Right before the rally was to start the city declared an “unlawful assembly” and ordered everyone to disperse.

It had nothing to do with persuading anyone. It had to do with speaking the truth about what happened.

To understand why Krauthammer continues to lambast Trump as an “unfit” president whose speech is “immoral”, one first has to understand Jewish civil religion. According the sociologist John Murray Cuddihy, Jews (and Catholics and Protestants) embrace a civic and civil religion of “niceness” and non-offensiveness. Trump violates the American civil religion of niceness when he intentionally tries to bust political censuring codes and norms (political correctness). It is not coincidental that those who believe Trump’s speech disqualifies him to be president are often Jewish: Charles Krauthammer, Michael Medved, David Brooks, Jonah Goldberg, even Dennis Prager (although Prager endorsed Trump); or Protestant Christians like Peter Wehner. Toleration and being “nice” is the central tenet of Jewish civil religion. So when Krauthammer calls Trump’s press conference a “moral disgrace”, what he is really saying is that Trump isn’t Jewish (or Jewish enough). This could be seen as a religious or cultural prejudice on the part of Krauthammer who wants a “Jewish” (nice guy) president, not a blunt talking WASP president who sounds like Damon Runyan. Call this the Jewish “allergy” toward Trump. Jews (and Christians) don’t want to see the immorality of political correctness as dodging the truth. Truth has to come higher on the value scale than niceness when it comes to politics.

The only litmus test that matters for Conservatives these days, is how willing they are to take on the Liberal pop culture industrial complex.

I’ll take a Centrist Republican, who calls out all this PC madness and hypocrisy, and doesn’t give a damn if someone calls them a racist, over a hardcore Conservative who legitimizes Marxist/Atheist agitators as sincere champions of tolerance and equality.

A few months ago, an annual parade that’s held in Portland, had to be cancelled, because Left wing thugs threatened violence over the fact that local GOP politicians would be marching the parade. They said “we won’t allow Nazis to march in our streets”.

I would love for someone to give an example of White Supremists forcing the cancellation of an event because they threatened violence if Democrat politicians showed their face in public.

This is but one of many examples of how much more prevalent and violent Left wing protests are than any of these rinky dink Neo Nazi groups. Big city leaders are scared to death of Antifa. That’s why a parade can get shut down with the snap of a finger.

Trump’s statements today were good, but he could have gone much farther, in terms of detailing the violence of Occupy and Antifa, and how the media either gives them benign or positive coverage.

When you know the media is going to attack you over something that they’re disgustingly hypocritical about, it’s best to raise the ante and really call them out strongly.

I wish Trump would have gone as far as accusing the media of being ecstatic over the fact that they’re getting to cover a story about a Neo Nazi killing someone, considering all the effort they’ve had to make to ignore all the violence of Occupy and Antifa for all these years.

In Israel, there is no such “niceness.” They are direct and tough.

Antifa, BLM, the KKK and Neo-Nazis are all violent and tyrannical. They are all bad groups. It's a pretty simple concept.

Trump clearly stated that he understands it. Most here on FR understand it.

Now compare that to the long list of people who won't acknowledge that, people in the media and people in government.

And imagine what will happen one day when normal, freedom loving, small government conservatives with a permit, hold a rally in a park. And imagine what will happen when the Antifa and BLM mob, supported by a governor and a police force, come for us and force us out of that park and into the crowd, because they don't like our point of view?

What? You say that can't happen because we aren't Neo-Nazi's?

Good luck with that.

Krauthammer’s position boils down to this:

White Americans must forever be judged for slavery - a horrible injustice that not a single living white American is guilty of.

Slavery is so much a part of history that it is statistically impossible not to be descended both from slaves and slave owners.

Krauthammer is an overpaid gas bag.

I respect him for overcoming his infirmity... but he’s showing his true elitist colors.

I’ve had enough of the Kraut.
