None of the Beatles were studio musicians, playing the music that was placed in front of them, in all different styles, for the first time, and playing it perfectly while recording it on the first take.

Paul probably could have been a session musician, if he wanted to be one. He is exceptionally talented.
Its a good thing he decided to write and record instead.
