Blood flow can be increased by leeches anti-coagulate properties.(Stops blood from clotting) They have been successfully used in the reattachments of fingers.

(According to the apothecaries at Williamsburg, they also increase white blood cells counts to fight infection. So did injesting Mercury. YUM! Love historical medicine!)

But impeded blood flow for 2 years to the retina or brain causes permanent damage that I don’t see how anti-coags can fix now.

Can’t even figure out why a fall down the stairs would cause blindness unless brain damage but MAYBE son trying to gouge his dads eye has something to do with this. That has nothing to do with blood flow. The cornea, which the kid probably, presumptively gouged doesn’t have a blood supply. This doesn’t make sense at all.

The biggest leeches this guy has to deal with is his lawyers.

I HATE DAMN LEECHES!

I go out to let my dog out in the morning and my porch is always is covered in slugs. So fricken gross.

I can't even imagine leeches. They top centipedes. (maybe)

Don't mind spiders or little snakes.

p.s. Thanks so much for your service. Some of us appreciate you MUCH!!!

Lol. Yup. Plenty of jokes. Rats seem to be a metaphor for Lawyers, too...

Replacing lab rats with lawyers

The National Institute of Health (NIH) announced last week that they were going to start using lawyers instead of rats in their experiments. Naturally, the American Bar Association was outraged and filed suit. Yet, the NIH presented some very good reasons for the switch.

1. The lab assistants were becoming very attached to their little rats. This emotional involvement was interfering with the research being conducted. No such attachment could form for a lawyer.

2. Lawyers breed faster and are in much greater supply.

3. Lawyers are much cheaper to care for and the humanitarian societies won't jump all over you no matter what you're studying.

4. There are some things even a rat won't do.

Q: What’s the difference between a porcupine and a Volkswagen Beetle full of Lawyers?

A: With a porcupine, all the pricks are on the outside.

There are likely other factors involved as well.

“The use of leeches to lessen the rate of blood flow to the eye lessens the production of vitreous humor and thus lessens the pressure inside the eye. So is used as well to reduce the damage of glaucoma.”

“Another area where leech therapy can be beneficial is eye inflammation. Chorioretinitis [an inflammation of the choroid and retina of the eye], conjunctivitis [inflammation of the conjunctiva of one or both eyes], Keratitis [a condition in which the eye’s cornea, the front part of the eye, becomes inflamed] and schleritis [a serious inflammatory disease that affects the white outer coating of the eye, known as the sclera] are just some of eye inflammation disorders.”
