I totally agree with this fellow. This is really a trend that goes beyond just SI using “plus sized” swimsuit models. It is a whole trend of using physically unattractive people in ads and I agree it needs to stop.
And I’m not just talking fat or frumpy. There’s an ad for online quickbooks that maybe some here have seen, it features some young fellow with messed up hair (I’d say harry potter hair but that would be too kind). Not only is he not handsome (he’s not hideous, but he’s NOT handsome), he looks like a goofball and you can’t imagine what business he has that he needs QB for.
My local bank has billboards around town, I forget what the slogans all say, but one something about helping your business that has a picture of a guy who looks like a low level gangster. This is in New Jersey!
Awful, they are all awful and they make me want to not buy whatever it is they are selling.
I have a bigger problem with the glorification of tattoos.
