Just watched the start of the NASCAR race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway...
They also talked about the time to get the spotters and cameramen off of the roofs.

I don’t remember any for “anticipated” weather...
OK, now it’s raining
These “competition cautions” and breaking the race into “stages” or whatever they call it is ludicrous...Also this “playoff” system is ridiculous....
France has ruined real racin’.....
Yeah? I just started watching some paint dry....
What did you love most? The smell, noise, friends, breathing the same air as the racers? All of it?
I do agree with you, being ‘at the game’ is the bigger experience/thrill - but for us geezers - it takes a lot of endurance;)
everything...and i mean EVERYTHING!!!!
From the entrance of the Gordon Pipers, to all the pre-race festivities, to the people in the stands (i saw dozens of people wearing t-shirts with an American Flag and the wording “Back to Back World War Victors!!...don’t see that in NY), the start, seeing/hearing/feeling the speed, the finish and everything in between...
EVERYTHING!!!
Charlotte Motor Speedway removed the back-stretch seating.
These tracks are taxed by the seats they have.
Kyle Petty really needs to cut that freaking ponytail what a fruit cup
You Win;)!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s 175,000 persons. Still the biggest attendance in NASCAR. Also no Jeff Gordon.
Somehow my husband got our young son into NASCAR, despite never being a car fan of any kind. Now he has it on TV alot.
I don’t mind it, but often my instinctual prejudices are only confirmed experiencing this. Around and around a circle for hours, and everytime you turn around, they are cautioned and not really racing. Including stopping for weather. My God, basically boring!
I prefer the horses. It’s short and to the point, and they never stop for weather.
I'm on the fence about stage racing. I understand how they are trying to prevent total point loss for a team that is taken out in a late-race accident. It's designed to keep competition pressure up throughout the whole race, instead of laying back until the end. Only the top-ten finishes in each stage get stage points, so there is a motive to race well throughout the race.
It might also be a counter to "team racing," where multiple cars from the same owner trade track position to advantage one or the other. Now they have more motive to be out for themselves.

For a while, weren’t they all really the same car with different badges and grilles?
Did a quick Google - looks like they still do - they are all built on the Car of Tomorrow chassis. It appears that all of the sheet metal (and now, carbon fiber) has to fit the same template, so it’s basically identical, as well. - You can build any body style you want, as long as it fits the template.
Half full at Indy is still 125,000 people. That said the Brickyard is dying. They are moving it to September next year hoping it will make a comeback. I’m a huge Indycar follower and the difference between real racing and the parade that is NASCAR is amazing. I’ve never understood the love of NASCAR racing. A bunch of look a like cars drive around following each other, little passing, mandatory competition stoppages, meh. A couple of years ago they had a tire problem and literally stopped the race every like 15 laps to check tire wear. They should have just called the race and moved on.
Yup...
The very First Brickyard,
I was There!
I’ve noticed empty seats at a few tracks this year. Maybe the cost of attending. I would be more likely to attend. Get claustrophobic with big crowds.

I am not into car racing,or even most sports, but it is SO nice to read your post, with it’s enthusiasm.
People are so jaded today——reading that was like a breath of fresh air.

I liked the old NASCAR...You run a 500 mile race with the ONLY stoppage was a real caution flag...
Too much BS in the races today....
Red Flag for Weather????
Oh Yes ...many 500 races,
1997...Two days of delays!
