Caesar was actually rumored to be a little light in the sandals during his lifetime. His relationship with the king as a young Roman envoy to the Bithynian court raised some eyebrows back in Rome. He may have been compensating for that reputation by later bedding every married Roman lady he could persuade.

So when the SWJs pull down portraits of Shakespeare at the university, it could be a hate crime.

Where’s the social justice in that, huh?

I thought he was gay because he was Edward DeVere. I’m so confused.

Ah, how times change. I remember when most of the artistic directors at the RSC and National were straight. Actors, might have been gay but not the directors. Peter Hall, Trevor Nunn, David Hare, etc. Times do change. Now Roger DeBris is in charge!

I haven’t seen Anthony Sher on stage or in movies in 35 years.

He may have been in the closet, as a Catholic. And being a recusant wasn’t that easy in his day.

Not a shock.

What’s in the brain that ink may character
Which hath not figured to thee my true spirit?
What’s new to speak, what now to register,
That may express my love or my dear merit?
Nothing, sweet boy; but yet like prayers divine
I must each day say o’er the very same,
Counting no old thing old, thou mine, I thine,
Even as when first I hallowed thy fair name.
So that eternal love in love’s fresh case
Weighs not the dust and injury of age,
Nor gives to necessary wrinkles place,
But makes antiquity for aye his page,
Finding the first conceit of love there bred
Where time and outward form would show it dead.

Pardon me! Why is this important after all of these centuries?

These sodomites just have to justify their existence.

“And Jack Dempsey, Babe Ruth, Wilt Chamberlain, Donald Duck, Archie Bunker, Daniel Boone, Davey Crockett, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, Sgt. York, Audie Murphy, Romeo and Juliet, Sherlock Holmes, Matt Dillon, Little Joe Cartwright, Roy Rogers, Gordie Howe and the Boston Celtics were all gay.”

Don’t forget Jesus.

Wow, 44 replies before the mention of Edward de Vere.

Where have all the fans of Joe Sobran gone?

He’s here, he’s queer, he’s Edward DeVere!

Saw Sobran speak about this - he was very funny. Nice man too who was brutally maligned.

I’ve heard this all my life, and I’m old. I didn’t care then, and I don’t care now.

Point taken, but I was referring to Juliette, Julius being the male version of the name.

Shakespeare wrote ‘The Taming of the Shrew”. No fag could have written that piece.

Not talking about that. As written, the protagonists of “As You Like It” and “Twelfth Night” were females who decided to dress as men to conceal their identity.

Even if the actors in those cases were men, the characters were women dressing as men.

Just declaim a few lines from Othella
And they’ll think you’re a helluva fella
...

Kiss Me Kate...or, The Taming of the Shrew
Probably why I named my daughter Katy.
