Rare green puppy born h GOLSPIE, Scotland Dog owner Louise Sutherland from Scotland got the surprise of her life when her golden retriever gave birth to a green puppy last week.
Yep, you read that right.
Sutherland named the green pup Forest, according to The Sun. Forest is one of nine puppies who her 3-year-old retriever, Rio, gave birth to.
The first pup was stuck, so myself and my daughter Claire managed to free him and pull him out safely, Sutherland told The Sun. It was all hands on deck but then as the puppies started to arrive, we noticed that one of the puppies had green fur. We couldnt believe it.
This isnt the first time a green puppy has been born. It has happened at least three other times before.
Veterinarians believe that the green fur is caused by an exposure to biliverdina green bile pigment found in the placenta, according to Time magazine in 2014.
Time magazine reports that the color tends to fade within a few weeks. Sutherland tells The Sun that Forests fur has already started fading.
The color has faded quite a bit already and will be gone soon, Im told.
While the other puppies will be going to other loving homes, Sutherland says she will be keeping Forest.

Kermit has some splainin’ to do to Miss Piffy
I GOTS to get a better desk lamp
Of course it’s green, it’s not ripe yet.
The other pups are green with envy.
This happens all of the time when a pup is surrounded in the uterus with decaying amniotic fluid and placenta. How this is news is beyond me. Its rare alright, about once a week rare.
What’s the purpose of Velcro collars on newborn pups? Seems it would be uncomfortable.
In different colors to identify the pups
Do mooslimes still hate it?
Kermit also might of messed up his relationship with ralph seeing how that dog is his girl friend.
Happy little momma
Will the puppy be a Green Retriever?
A dog lover & owner and I have never heard of it. The photos were amazing & I learned something & thought it was a great little news story.
Unsure why you seem so bitter about a charming story. I’m glad it was posted. I bookmarked it to show my mother whom I am visiting.
Not sure, but that little guy’s got a lot of fur! He is so darn cute!
