Senator Portman wants to throw billions of dollars at the opioid crisis. There's a huge problem with that. Nobody has a clue what stops addiction, except the addict making the tough choices and being totally committed to breaking that addiction. Even then, there's some question how many actually totally give it up.

Narcan has saved some individuals, for sure, but overall it has made the situation worse. It has enabled addicts to expect to be saved if they overdose.

What this would be is another billions of dollars fiasco involving medical care, counseling, assisted living, that would never be unraveled. One can't help but suspect that Senator Portman's deep-pocket donors in medical, pharmaceutical, counseling, and care-giving companies are salivating at the possibilities.
