There was no “slight of hand” - that would be a violation of several federal lending regulations.
Again, as someone with experience with PP Credit (for several years - it only recently changed names from BillMeLater to PP Credit), opening an account involves more than a checkmark on an electronic order page - it requires you enter additional info (stuff you wouldn’t do to simply place an order) and acknowledge the agreement and disclosure statement. Not something that would be easily missed.
It IS possible to accidentally charge a purchase in eBay to an EXISTING PP Credit account - because once it is established, it is available (and can even be the “default”) for every purchase. Almost too easy. But again - this requires an EXISTING account.
I never established such an account. The idea of credit is one I cannot contemplate. They did it to me all on their own volition.
Then several federal laws have been violated.
Considering the major penalties involve loved, it is HIGHLY unlikely PPCrefit opened an account without your authorization. And since the account is linked to you PayPal account with your email address as the user, I would check with anyone in your family with access to your PayPal account.
Failing that, file a complaint oath federal authorities.
But if they investigate and find that the bank did not do what is being claimed, you could get tagged for a false report.
