A ONE TIME investment of $8,000 (less than buying a car) made before turning 24 years old - yields $202,715 RV fund for retiring at age 66. Assuming 8% compounded interest... over 42 years. Do the math

The math part is easy.
I'm fairly sure that when I'm 24 I'll be just as leery of banks as I am right now. Assuming banks will do their part for the next 42 years? Nah! So much can go wrong in 4 decades.

Banks are a waste of time - - go with an IRA with Vanguard... One advantage is you subtract what you ‘save’ with Vanguard from your income... (You don’t pay taxes on the money you contribute)/ Another advantage is they have one of the lowest expense ratios in the industry.

Don’t worry. Some judge will order that pensioners come first, and the taxpayers pay more.

The M-297 RET is worth $12350 as a trade, $17850 retail, and was $32989 new.

Thanks for the added info. Apparently during the final inspection of the property, a file did turn up in a drawer that had the original receipt when the trailer was purchased and the amount was more than you suggested... something in the $36,000 range. I wonder if there are some options that went along with it. The camper has been located in Northern Michigan... Just a guess but perhaps it had some extra winterizing package installed on it that normally is not included. The other possibility is that the higher amount involved some sales tax... it was purchased in Michigan so it's assumed that a 6% sales tax would apply to it. I will need to take a closer look at this receipt to see what it specifically says....hopefully there'll be another opportunity to do that.

The trailer is currently installed as a permanent structure on a lot.... roof has been installed above it, a deck around it and the sewer line goes right into an installed septic tank and bed. However, this conversation is reminding me that before the deal on the property closes, it would be smart to take some steps to ensure that I have a clear and specific title to the trailer itself so that when it is sold and moved off the property, it can be registered and plated by the next owner. Since the camper is being purchased as part of the overall deal for the property and I have no plans to take it on the road as a 'camper' per se, it's easy to forget about those details.

I don’t know.

How do people in their 20s afford million dollar homes?

How do families of 6 afford cruise vacations?

Large down payments and 30 year mortgages?

Credit cards?

Beats me.

I have to believe there is a considerable incidence of inherited wealth, folks writing off high dollar trucks as a business expense

most likely

I used to knock around the woods all the time.

Not long ago an old friend asked me if I still camped a lot.

I said, Hell, I don’t even stay in cheap hotels anymore.
