I’ve been on Free Republic almost almost 20 years.
I remember when there were maybe 25 threads in a day here, not many hundreds. I also remember when Drudge Report was getting maybe a hundred fifty thousand hits per day.
Drudge linked to us at a very early point when we needed to grow. He is responsible for something like maybe a third or more of our total membership, here.
he has been extraordinarily good to us.
There probably would be a free republic without drudge but it wouldn’t be anything like it is today.
no freeper under any circumstances should ever say anything bad about Matt.
Matt has shown up in person to two different Free Republic National events and when he did he humbly preferred to remain on the sidelines. He did not throw his considerable wueight around even one tiny bit.
As long as you didn’t recognize him his face, based on his totally unremarkable behavior on that day you would have assumed he was maybe a convenience store clerk, a telemarketer, or the gift shop attendant that he once really was.
The guy is an extremely solid character, sort of like a cowboy who doesn’t say very much but later does extremely meaningful, big things.
Yes! Agree!
I visited this site due to Drudge link.
Thanks, gaijin.
I love Drudge. I go there constantly through the day while spinning through the other conservative sites. Ignoring the links to things I won’t enjoy, like things about animal injuries and liberals, I can find a good number of amusing stories and things I feel I need to know about, and I can find them quickly. The way he uses headlines is brilliant. As for the 3rd video, a man walking away from questions really isn’t in the same league as someone calling viewers stupid. And, yes, the site rarely seems to update on weekends, but I check anyway, just in case. If the world was going to end, I feel pretty sure I’d see a headline on Drudge first.
One year, 2000 to be precise, I gave Matt the shirt off my back so he could wear it inside the dinner. The t-shirt had the famous photo of Elian Gonzalez taken at gunpoint by the feds emblazoned on it. Drudge wore the shirt in front of Bill Clinton. He stood in front of Clinton as Clinton sat on the dais. Bold.
Excellent post in defense of someone who has saved our Republic several times.
I have seen freerepublic listed on his site but didn’t know he’d been to any outings.
He won’t miss me. Just seems like his priorities have changed a little lately. I suppose he needs to get along with the msm people to a degree.
