WACO, Texas (KWTX) An East Texas Medical Center ambulance crew stopped to help Wednesday after spotting a 98-year-old woman mowing her lawn in the June heat.
One ETMC paramedic and two EMTs were between calls Wednesday when they spotted Margaret Durham in the 3600 block of Windsor Avenue.
She appeared to be overheated, an ETMC spokesman said, so the ambulance turned around and headed back to the house, and the crew finished the mowing job.
"She's elderly and looked exhausted," said paramedic Kent Haney. "She was on a dangerous slope of the yard, possibly could fall and lose control of the lawn mower and injure herself."

My 90 yr old MIL just bought a new riding mower.
This is news I want reported. Good job guys!
Preventative Medicine.
Good for the EMTs and props to anyone that old still trying to cut their own grass!
Wow.... I almost keeled over yesterday after mowing my yard and I’m about half her age.
I cut my 80 year old MILs lawn on her nice JD ride on mower so that I don’t have to sit and visit her.
That works out well.
where are the people who should be helping her..such as family, friends or neighbors...
This is Texas and that is just the way we are!
LOL....I can relate to that.
Grass grows. What is going to happen in two weeks when it needs to be cut again?
Kudos to them, but...Does this woman not have family who could help her?
hint, hint
God bless them!
Love it! I adore our 1st responders. Have called them many times with my elderly parents.
“so that I dont have to sit and visit her.”
How very kind you are.
.
So you are going on record as preferring that they sit around the firehouse playing checkers to spending idle time preventing a possible medical emergency?
Or do you just think fire and police are just a waste of taxpayer’s money, and that if a useless eater has a heart attack, he or she should just die for the benefit of society?
Which position are you taking?
Good for the EMTs. But what the heck?...the article quotes a neighbor who was working on a car in his yard who took photos of the EMTs helping, and also quotes the DIL. Why weren’t those people helping out? My husband and I are in our 60s. We take our 80 year old neighbor’s trash can down to the road weekly and help out with other things when needed (and did the same when we had a disabled neighbor living on the other side of us). My husband cleans our neighbor’s gutters and I clean ours.
I have an 80 year old neighbor whose grown kids all live somewhere else. During our heat wave when it was 107-111 I was going down and watering her 34 tomato plants. I was afraid she’d have a stroke out there. Then when some of the plants keeled over from the heat I went down and picked all the tomatoes off and pulled up the plants. My payment was a nice mess of fried green tomatoes. Lol. Yum!
My Dad cut his half-acre lot with a push mower until he was 94. Of course, he was still climbing up on the roof at the age of 90. Finally passed away at 100, and his health only declined over the last year of his life.
