Actually, based on at least the dates of the last three eruptions (2.0 million years ago, 1.3 and .6), they're about due for another (at Yellowstone). The blue arrow indicates the direction of movement of the NA tectonic plate.

Here you can see the Snake River Plain hot spot trail. It traces the movement of the NA continent over the deep-seated stationary hot spot. Look dead center (left to right), and about 1/4 of the way down from the top.
