the religious folks elect some representatives in the parliament (Knesset) but have never achieved an electoral majority (which would enable them to form a government more to their liking, think the British parliamentary system with a unicameral legislature and you got it nailed pretty close)
one thing, though, is that the believing and more religious Jews are a growing segment of Isareli society, a trend that will probably translate to more “clout” in Jerusalem (seat of government) in future elections
