Carrying Firearm Interstate via Airplane (Vanity)
justme | 04/23/2017 | myself

Posted on 06/23/2017 1:19:47 PM PDT by Rusty0604

I am planning on flying to CA and then driving back to Texas with my daughter and grandchildren. I would feel much safer with a firearm on the way back, with so much desolate area and close to the border. My question is, will I be given grief when I arrive at Burbank? It's a pistol, actually purchased in CA but several years ago. Can I take my ammo? This is why I hate flying, but I do t ha e a choice. THANKS!

Interstate 8 isn’t always that busy. Then you have Texas, no interstate to where I live.

Yeah, don’t....I repeat, DON’T walk up to the counter and calmly say “I have a gun” to the staff.

She turned pale white and started to step back, and I had to clarify it was in the bag being checked in.

I don’t have a carry permit. I carried the whole time I lived I CA

That's your call...I have no advice to give you and I doubt you would listen anyway.

A carry permit is hard to get in CA. I always figured better chance with twelve jurors than six poll bearers.

I live in Texas, and not close to a interstate.

How about shipping the firearm to daughter via UPS and picking it up from her?

Really. Well that’s a new one for me. I had to go off the interstate to a restaurant or gas station. Driven across the US 9 times.

you missed the point. The poster said her got off the interstate in Texas, which means he drove from Cal, AR NM without leaving and unless you have a portable potty in the car and a very large gas tank you should have exited somewhere after Phoenix.

And cable the gun to the hard case so that the TSA does not steal it.

Let me back up.
Cable the hard case to your luggage.
Cable the gun to the hard case.

So that TSA does not steal it.

I think you can put your unloaded gun into your checked luggage

Only if you want to get charged with a crime. Just goes to show, don’t get legal advice from people on the internet.

No big deal. Put gun in locked case (Use TSA locks!) in a locked bag. Once in California, keep same. In transit no one should bug you. The laws allow this. I travel to/from Sacramento frequently. On iPad now, but search TSA gun and see the summary. Look up traveling with guns, interstate. The only problem is if you have it out, unlocked, loaded.

Read the TSA site... gun and ammo in same locked case. Ammo in magazines or ammo box in that same locked box. Use TSA approved locks on the case and on your luggage. Very simple.

and I would bring gun. Once out of California you will drive through Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Really want to go defenseless?

I wouldn’t.
I heard of a situation where a gun legally checked in baggage was an issue because a connecting flight cancelled requiring an overnight in New York (I think, or maybe D.C.). The guy ended up in jail.

Leave the Gun, take the Canoli.

I believe the Gun can be put into your Checked Baggage as long as it's in a Locked Container. You do have to let the Authorities at the Airport know it's in there.

Do not take any Ammunition with you, just have your Daughter buy some for you.
