ST. LOUIS (AP) — A federal judge on Tuesday approved a settlement in the wrongful-death lawsuit filed by the parents of Michael Brown, an unarmed, black 18-year-old, whose fatal shooting by a white police officer nearly three years ago in Ferguson, Missouri, set off months of protests.
Financial terms of the settlement approved by U.S. District Judge E. Richard Webber were not disclosed. Anthony Gray, the attorney for Brown's parents, declined comment, as did Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III.

Govt gets 1/3, the lawyers will probably get 75% of whats left, so they end up with less than a million, and taxpayers end up with the bill for everything. And all for a black thug who broke the law and deserved exactly what he got.
They will have spent all the money within a year.
It may not be taxable, depending on the terms of the settlement, and what the IRS says about the settlement.
The money will be gone in a year, and a lot of Ferguson liquor store, strip joints, auto dealers and nail salons are going to be a Hell of a lot richer.

How about if Michael Brown’s family pays a settlement to the police officer he was trying to disarm and kill when he was shot and all of Brown’s other victims of thugishness, like the store owner he pushed around, since that was caused by his lousy upbringing?

In my state, that settlement would have to become public. This is basic governmental transparency.
