The 15 Backup Quarterbacks Better Than Colin Kaepernick
SI ^ | June 7, 2017 | Andy Benoit

First off, what you’re about to read has zero to do with Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the National Anthem. For proof, here’s an article that I wrote in March 2016, before the protest, saying that Kaepernick would be out of the NFL before he won another 10 games as a starter. That forecast appears to be coming true, because Kaepernick can’t even find work as a backup. And it’s mostly due to the same reason he couldn’t find work as a starter: teams don’t think he’s good enough. Twitter went up in arms earlier today when I tweeted this:

Good thing Mr. Benoit writes at SI not ESPN.

kaperdink might be better than my dad, who died 20 years ago. But just a little.

A very good explanation of why Kap just isn’t very good. Plus, we don’t know what kind of salary he is demanding for his mediocrity.

It’s not only his athletic ability, which is marginal, it’s his political views, they’re radioactive, no one wants to touch him.

Colon Krappernick is not as bad as Ryan Leaf. See, you can say something nice about almost anybody.

That was a breakdown of everything wrong with Kaepernick’s QB skills like you won’t get anywhere else. Definitely worth the read!

“it’s his political views, they’re radioactive”

Yup...that’s it....plus watching him is like watching Stick Man, he lost a lot of weight...he looks like he’s running for his life out there. He could help himself a bit by getting rid of that ridiculous looking 6 foot wide afro.

Kap will be broke within a year...his fancy home and lifestyle will bring him down....Maybe he can move in with Kathy Griffin.

Spot on article to anyone who pays attention to the game. He was a one trick pony until they took away his pony, now he is a one-trick prostitute at best, and nobody except an idiot or a virgin (managerially speaking) is going to pay him for that single trick that no longer exists.

The SJW morons you see posting on various forums all say how racist everyone is because he offered to play for the minimum and had no takers.

I hope he rots in hell. He is going to find out how attractive he is to that SJW douche who is his girlfriend when he is out of work and ill tempered about it.

The Seahawks already had a backup quarterback. Kaepernick would be a backup quarterback and they did not need another one.

We have to start by agreeing on the definition of “better”.

* throws, runs, “plays football” to improve chances to win
* attracts fans ($$$$)
* makes a social statement
* is/isn’t a certain skin color

I’ll gladly talk about the first two.

Some people only care about the last 2.

We will never be able to have a discussion/debate/argument on this topic if we don’t agree on what we are discussing. When we disagree on the basis/premise/definitions we can’t talk about the next level points. But that’s what most people are doing.

I can try to argue how the “good football player” has more “social influence” than the bench player. And the SJW can argue that their “socially important” QB attracts fans ($$$). But we don’t really buy into our own arguments. And we really don’t care about those discussions. We’re trying to convince an opponent of a secondary issue when we are polar opposites on the primary issue and that’s not a discussion worth having.

If we can talk about the primary issues it helps to try to see their side and make our arguments in terms of their priorities. But we are talking about a secondary issue (if we don’t first agree on the meaning of “better”) so it doesn’t help to try to frame our argument in ways they understand (and vice-versa when they try to argue with me).

There are 10 other guys on the field looking to the QB to bring them together, have a plan and deliver the touchdown in unified order.

If Mr Kaepernick had that skill, he would be the QB on an NFL team.

But he is such a political asset! Surely that trumps whatever athletic abilities he might not have.

Kaperwhatever probably knew he was not long for the NFL and went for the publicity that might remake his career as a political activist.

The author still stopped a little short - Kaeperneek runs around behind the line of scrimmage like a Pee Wee player for 2 reasons - He hasn’t the confidence to make completions downfield and he his afraid of getting hit.

Yup, I’ve been saying through all this he’s just not that good. This year we went into the post season with 4 high profile QBs either out of a job or expected to be out of a job: Romo, Cutler, Kaep, and RG3. Of the four Romo is hands down the best, but he’s injury plagued. Of the four two have “retired” (until you’ve actually been out of the league a few years I don’t believe in most retirements, let’s face it if somebody called up and offered Romo or Cutler 12 million bucks they’d take a raincheck on the booth) and 2 are still thinking the phone will ring. Nobody is whining that the other 3 are mistreated.
