You stated.........”He (Paul) says that what a man may have done THAT IS OF NO VALUE will be burned up. That is, in Purgatory...”

No it’s not Purgatory......Paul is not speaking of literal fire any more than he is of literal wood and gold... He is speaking metaphorically, calling some works wood, hay, stubble (which fire burns)... and others gold, silver and precious stones (which fire purifies)....

There is nothing here or elsewhere in Scripture to support that ‘flames in a mythical purgatory’ purge the individual and thereby expiate his sins...Nothing at all.... Paul is dealing entirely with the quality of works one has done... ‘for Christ’... and what ‘reward’ will therefore be received, if any.

Not my words...see Hebrews 9:27. But I agree with you.

Paul is talking about what happens to out works AT DEATH AND AFTER DEATH. He is not merely assigning labels to various kinds of works.

You are a victim of the most relentless Scripture-twisters in history—the “reformers.”

Continuing.....

Matthew:5:8 and Hebrews:12:14.... tells us clearly we do not attain to a personal holiness or purity that qualifies us for God’s presence..... We are purged of sin not by our own suffering here or in some mythical purgatory, but through faith in the blood of Christ that was shed for our redemption “when he Christ had by himself purged our sins” (Heb:1:3)....“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission ,purging of sin,”(Heb:9:22).....further “the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth ,purges, us from all sin”... (1 Jn:1:7)....“they...washed ,purged, their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb ,Christ,”.... (Rv 7:14).....and There is no blood shed in purgatory, even if such a place existed, and thus no purging of sin there.

And further...Peter declared,... “For Christ also hath ONCE suffered for sins, [He] the just for [us] the unjust, that he might bring us to God”... not to purgatory (1 Pt 3:18)

Now lastly and interesting enough.... Not only does the dogma of purgatory contradict the Bible, but there is an obvious contradiction within the dogma itself.....

....According to your position Christ’s death couldn’t purify us because that requires personally suffering for our sins according to the teaching of purgatory etc..... Yet it is also , according to your position, that after our death Masses said for us, the good deeds and suffering of the living on our behalf ,rosaries being said for us, etc., can reduce or even eliminate purgatorial suffering entirely....so we don’ t have to personally suffer after all!

Can you see the contradictions?

Well first of all I'm not a victim nor a reformer... and I don't much appreciate being “labeled” as such..... I am however a Christian in the full sense of that word....and I do follow Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior....the Gospel has no need of reform it is complete as it stands and has stood for centuries... HE is our all sufficiency..............but I think we can agree what Paul is speaking of is works after we die.....however the only works that follow a Christian are those 'for reward' in following Jesus and what we did For Him and In Him.... For apart from him we can do nothing. So what about the contradiction mentioned?????

The absolute worst thing about hell for those that go there is the realization that it was created ONLY for the devil and his angels - and that those that are there should never have. Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, all the lost need do is look to the Saviour with the understanding that His death on the cross was totally sufficient to pay the sin debt of ‘whosover will’ come.

The tragedy in that place is that their suffering need never have happened - in that land where there is no time, and no end.

Yes.....and worst of all they will be very much aware that God is not there.....people seldom realize how much God even blesses unbelievers while here on earth......they will be distinctly aware of that loss in hell.

And indeed...His Grace is sufficient...and because of this we love to serve him where he calls us to do so. Oh the power of the cleansing power of Jesus to take ALL our sins away!....then He puts up a sign that reads...”No fishing”....

The most basic definition of ‘death’ is ‘separation.’

Physical death - the spirit is separated from the body.
Spiritual death - that same spirit is separated from God.

To be born once means that a man will die twice . . . to be born twice (and that is not the baptism of an infant) means we will only die once.

This is the meaning behind the Saviours cry on the cross, “My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?” During the time he was making an atonement for our sins - he became the sinner - He was separated from the Father.

And that was likely the most horrible part of His intense sufferings. Imagine if it lasted an eternity?

. . . for those without salvation . . . IT WILL BE AN ETERNITY. In literal flames.
