I used to hear Rose singing while he cleaned the neighbors pool. Full four range if the water was cold.

Meh...can’t stand opera. I would rather go see the kids next door garage band than any opera, don’t care how good the singer is.

I’ve seen Andrea and Freddie live. Never had the pleasure of seeing Sinatra.

Frankly, I’ve only become a Sinatra fan in the past 3 or 4 years. I listened to some of his music on a Delta flight to Brazil and fell in love. His style and phrasing are remarkable while seeming effortless. He also has a much wider range than most people realize. I’m just in awe of the man’s talent.

Obviously Otis Rush:

He also plays two perfect guitar solos on these recordings.

John Gary. His range was unbelievable.

Indeed - three octaves (cold, he could stretch further with a good warmup). Sinatra, Como, Williams - they all respected John's talent.

I remember seeing him perform Unchained Melody on the Danny Kaye show in the mid-'60s. I was a child, but I recall how that performance moved my mother to tears. That video clip used to be on YouTube, but has since vanished.

Not only was Sinatra gifted with talent and a beautiful vocal instrument, he truly invented the "conversational" and emotional pacing of lyrics that made them so arrestingly personal and appealing. He worked much harder at developing his voice and phrasing than most people realized. But that was the point, wasn't it? To make it sound effortless, the way an ice skater looks like she or he is just gliding and spinning so easily, after having practiced for thousands of hours on hard ice, shivering and falling and cutting oneself on the blades or toe picks.

Jim Reeves, Marty Robbins, Roy Orbison. How can you think as much like me as that? Spot on the money.

You pray just like me, too. Thanks for all those prayers you write for our President.

It’s no wonder, seeing we are both Christians, and Okies to boot.
