Dem Insiders Worried About Dashing Scandal Expectations of Base (Obama CIA says 'smoke but no fire')
American Thinker ^ | May 21 2017 | Thomas Lifson

Glenn Greenwald, a lefty, sees quite clearly the corner the Democrats have painted themselves into. Writing at The Intercept, he cites the knowledgeable Dems quietly warning the Dems to back away.

But on Wednesday night, Morell appeared at an intelligence community forum to “cast doubt” on “allegations that members of the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.” “On the question of the Trump campaign conspiring with the Russians here, there is smoke, but there is no fire at all,” he said, adding, “There’s no little campfire, there’s no little candle, there’s no spark. And there’s a lot of people looking for it.” (snip)

Perhaps most revealing of all are the Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee — charged with investigating these matters — who recently told BuzzFeed how petrified they are of what the Democratic base will do if they do not find evidence of collusion, as they now suspect will likely be the case. “There’s a tangible frustration over what one official called ‘wildly inflated’ expectations surrounding the panel’s fledgling investigation,” BuzzFeed’s Ali Watkins wrote.

Those “wildly inflated” expectations are a real and present danger to the Democrat leadership, who could well find themselves blamed as sellouts or worse.

“…several [Senate Intelligence] committee sources grudgingly say, it feels as though the investigation will be seen as a sham if the Senate doesn’t find a silver bullet connecting Trump and Russian intelligence operatives.” One member told Watkins: “I don’t think the conclusions are going to meet people’s expectations.”

Extremely difficult when no crime has been committed. The Deep State can manufacture evidence, but that is fraught with danger. Frankly, they're not very good at it, and it only takes one blabbermouth living long enough to spill the beans to really create a bad situation and have the whole thing blow up in their face.

That’s the Democrat way of saying it’s all lies.

If Trump would stop acting guilty this thing would end. But now he has made it seem that if they find nothing it was a cover up. Trump has been stupid lately. Everything from the firing of Comey onward has been a stupid mistake by Trump. He should have predicted what would happen.

Imo, you’re confusing reality with the fantasy broadcast by the msm.

Trump’s not acting guilty. It’s the constant “he’s guilty!!!!” screeching of the professional criminal class of leftist politicals and their lapdog msm that is beating otherwise decent folk down onto their knees in acceptance of the idiot narrative.

What Smoke? I wish just once a Republican would challenge a ( cough cough ) reporter to name a single, minuscule, atomic, shred of real evidence.

Can you show us even the tiniest scrap of evidence that would qualify as smoke? So far all I’ve seen are the billowing clouds of vapor from the DNC and MSM fog machines.

Trump may end up galvanizing the base and independents in the rust belt of 2018 if the dems take it too far.

Interesting that the demon-rats poll tested impeachment (according to McClasky news service) and then backed off immediately!

Those polling runs must have been REALLY really bad

Yeah, he should just sit in a corner sucking his thumb. Of course, firing Comey was EXACTLY what he should have done.

And your opinion should be valued because...??? Lighten up Francis. If anyone had to choose between you being stupid, or Trump being stupid, I wonder how that would turn out.

Remember when the House and Senate looked like this?

These days it looks more like this.

Republicans, how about more of this?  Thanks in advance.

Actually, this is true only if by their “base,” they mean the media, academia and upper middle class special interes groups (gays, etc.). I actually read a Dem state senator (forgotten the state) complaining that the party seemed to have no interest in the “real needs,” which she said were health care, “inequality,” etc, - naming the usual Dem faux grievances - but instead just wanted to go on and on about Russia, Russia, Russia.

I think the ones they should really regard as their base - that would be the people who voted for them - find the party elite’s obsession with getting rid of Trump to be of diminishing interest and even are suspecting that it’s a cover up for their inability to actually get anything done for their voters.

Actually there is a lot of smoke—from the smoke bombs the DemonCraps keep setting off and their own burning hair as they burn it to get attention.

LMAO. Trump has been baiting the morons for months with Russia and the tax returns.

Too late now dumbocrats. Your base will eat you alive if you don’t deliver the goods.

Here’s what I think happened:
They poll tested impeachment and the polls where poor. They’re happy enough having a special council keep a noose around Trump’s neck. They’ll use it for endless fake news leaks to harm him politically and use it to hang him if he really tries to reform the government.
