Fewer American parents naming their newborn girls Caitlyn now than a few years prior, a change possibly attributable to the most famous transgender person in the United States, the former Bruce Jenner.
The Associated Press reported Friday that data from the Social Security Administration show that not only has Caitlyn but the variants Caitlin, Katelynn and Kaitlynn dropped in popularity in 2016.

If I were one of those girls, I would legally have my name changed.
I never heard of anyone named Caitlyn before the 21st century.
It could also be because it is the most overused female baby name since “Courtney”.
Some of them may be going by Kate.
I wonder how many people are naming their girls Hillary?
How many are naming their daughters Bruce?
Who in their right mind would want to name their baby after a man who spent most of his life as a man, won multiple awards by participating in sport competitions as a man, got married to 3 different women, had children, and then on a whim, decided he really wanted to be a woman?
Courtney sounds like a boy's name.
Bruce has ruined that name for me and probably a lot of other people, too.
I don't think many are naming their sons Bruce, either. Bruce, like Kenneth, Lawrence, Neil and Frank, have faded from popularity. At the same time, I've noticed a growing number of teenage boys named Angel.
If Bruce decides to try trans-species and wants to be called Princess, Boomer, or Fido, those dog names will drop in popularity too. As for the name “Caitlyn”, my neighbor with that name is now “Kate”.
I know a 3 yr. Old boy named....
Adonis.
A new trend for feral youths?
But, did he ruin Wheaties for you?
Didn’t that same thing happen with the name “Monica” several years ago?
Watching ‘Game of Thrones’ and seeing Catelyn Stark portrayed as an old hag instead of the attractive woman in the prime of her life that she is in the books might have had something to do with it, too.
Lol.
On the other hand, the number of liberal ESPN employees naming their babies Caitlyn has risen sharply.
You don’t find many men named “Jethro” who are under 55.
