Microsoft's Build powwow has concluded and there were many key takeaways for business technology buyers to ponder.
The big question: What did we learn? Here are six key themes that emerged.
Microsoft conceded mobile and is betting that it can keep Windows relevant by connecting it to Apple's iPhones, Android and Internet of things devices. CEO Satya Nadella at Microsoft's analyst briefing didn't mention the smartphone once in his opening remarks. However, Nadella said mobility 10 times. Here's his view:
When you say that it's going to be multi-device experiences, then the next logical thing is the data and the AI that's making those experiences rich itself is getting distributed. In fact, you see this, you know, very clearly today in the cloud where people will train in the cloud, using, say, GPUs, take that model, deploy it in the edge to be able to recognize, you know, people, places, things, using even commodity cameras, for example.
You have to squint a bit to find a smartphone in that mix.
Windows relevance will be an ongoing debate for the foreseeable future even though it has 500 million users. Jason Perlow made his point that Windows should die (again), but Microsoft may find a way to continually retool its core operating system as the market and use cases change. In other words, Windows could morph to something more than an operating system.

"Here's a look at the six core themes that emerged at Microsoft Build including Windows relevance, Azure, Dynamics 365, user experience and digital transformation."IMO, reports of Windows' irrelevance are highly exaggerated. YMMV.
It’s Microsoft, the home of the blue screen of death.
I am seriously looking at various Linux flavors. The drive to a cloud-based, service (at a cost) O/S where the security of my data is at the hands of others is a serious issue for me.
They should go back to their roots. Just make a BASIC interpreter for other people’s operating systems. And call its self Micro Soft again. The little weenies.
Windows?
We don’t do windows.
It is in a prominent place near the top, connected to the broken heart from the 'dear John' text and the Google Maps marker to find a bar to drown your sorrows. One could actually write a novel following the icons around. Starting at the upper left, after a night of heated passion, he gave her a key to his place. But it was followed by a broken heart. Then the search for new love....
Linux Mint (Cinnamon desktop) and don’t look back.
Great idea!
LOL! Excellent!
Nah, Microsoft should go back to being a UNIX developer and vendor. Long before MS-DOS, and throughout the 1980's, there was XENIX... y'all remember XENIX, right?
From Wikipedia:
In the mid-to-late 1980s, Xenix was the most common Unix variant, measured according to the number of machines on which it was installed. Microsoft chairman Bill Gates said in 1996 that for a long time that company had the highest-volume AT&T Unix license.
I am going to give it a try today. Here is a link to the info: MintGuide.org

They had Xenix before MS-DOS, but not before their BASIC interpreter business..
Can anyone use Linux mint...or do you need some programming skills? Just bought a new laptop and would like to dump the Microsoft stuff
In the hearings yesterday ‘intelligence’ heads were asked if they’d be comfortable with Kaspersky anti-virus on their computers... something the geek squad pushes... the same geek squad members who were trained by the FBI to look for kiddie porn on computers they were fixing...
Did you hear this?

Businesses aren’t moving off of the Windows platform anytime soon.
Can I put it on a jump drive? New laptop has no dvd
MS problem is corperate leadership that have no vision or clue what MS does (or computers do)
even experts do not want to admit the cloud is just a remote server. (that is totally hackable)
