Long, white crew-neck Hanes T-shirts, and long button-down black short-sleeve dress shirts not tucked in.
I wrote to the company, and will post their response on this thread.
What are those? Levies?
The problem started when you carried the gun belt in. Next time wear it, then you don’t have to stop at the desk to check it. Nobody would be the wiser once you got into the changing room.
Most likely the rest was confusion on the part of the person at the desk who is used to only dealing with carried guns when they are brought in for service, so she followed the policy pertaining to that.
Personally, I probably wouldn’t stop shopping there unless their policy becomes ‘no CCW’, but I’d not mention that I had a gun in the future unless I was going for gun service.

Appreciate a ping when you do.

I am very sorry for the misunderstanding. Our policy is you can carry your gun loaded if you don’t have any intentions of taking it out. If you are going to be taking it out for any reason we ask that you bring it in unloaded and check it in with us at customer service. Then you can take it back to try it with your pants or try it out with holsters etc. It is a liability and safety issue for us.
Again, I am very sorry that we didn’t explain it to you correctly.
If you have any more questions or I can help you with anything, please give me a call.
Thank you,

Here’s my reply:
I believe that I said that my weapon would not be leaving it’s holster. Personally, my weapon is never out of it’s holster unless I’m cleaning it or shooting it. I even keep it in it’s holster when I place it back in the safe after wearing it all day. It’s in a leather Mitch Rosen Express Line holster, and the trigger guard is always covered by it. If this was some kind of miscommunication on my part, I apologize. But I believe I was being clear as to my intent of keeping my weapon safely holstered at all times.
Duluth Trading makes their tee shirts with a couple extra inches in the body to eliminate plumbers crack. Heavy material and true to size in my experience.
Pants, well, Carhartt makes a bunch of patterns, not just pure work clothes. Always seem to shrink almost a size, however. You're wise to eschew the cargo pockets; it takes something like 1.6 times the energy to carry something on your thigh as opposed to your waist or shoulders.
As I stated above: The weapon would not have been removed from it’s holster at any time.
I’d completely forgotten about Duluth Trading Company. I’ve heard a lot of great things about their clothing.
I have several pairs of khakis from Duluth Trading. They are big enough to hide IWB (so buy a couple sizes too big) or ankle carry, especially the pleated versions. Gusseted crotch, very comfortable, durable. A little pricey.
Team them with some soft cotton Dutch military surplus suspenders from Sportsmans Guide (wear them under your shirt) and no sagging or bagging. I got a dozen pair for about $15. A couple pair the elastic was shot but the rest were fine.
They are used but unlike the stuff from the former combloc, there is no fragrant smell of communism my FRiend.
Well, I got tired of waiting for their email, and called him.
The store manager said holstered or not, it’s their policy and insurance requirements that all guns be unloaded and checked at the counter if they’re going to be handled in any way.
His tone and fast talking manner kinda left me with the impression that he just wanted to placate me and my concerns quickly, and get off the phone.
I suggested that they should change their sign at their door and remove the part that reads, “If you plan on removing your sidearm from its holster,” statement to prevent confusion in the future.
Oh, well. Issue closed. I’ll get my fishing gear elsewhere.
Back to CCW pants suggestions.
“That’s exactly what the law says unless the business clearly posts it at the entrance.”
Please cite that law. I won’t hold my breath.
There’s an Army Surplus just to the west of me. I think I’ll go see what they have.
I’ve bought Carhartt pants from there few years ago and they had no problem with my weapon in it’s holster being removed from a belt and placed back on over and over.
Me: NO LAW says they have to allow you to have a loaded weapon in their store.
You: That’s exactly what the law says unless the business clearly posts it at the entrance.
STATE OF COLORADAO
Private educational institutions, private property owners, private tenants, private employers, and private business entities may choose to allow or prohibit open carry or concealed handguns as they see fit. In order to avoid confusion, posting a notice is recommended. Even without a posted notice; however, a private business or landowner can ask an individual to leave his or her property at any time. If the individual refuses, he or she may be charged with third degree criminal trespass, which can be a class 1 petty offense, a class 3 misdemeanor, or a class 5 felony, depending on the circumstances.
I likely should have gone with that approach. Too late now, though.
“She then directed me to their safe box and said for me to put the muzzle into it and pull the trigger to make sure that it was empty.”
Yes it is ridiculous.
No less an authority than Massad Ayoob recommends sticking with your black or dark trousers. The dark color tends to conceal the firearm.
He also pointed out that Jack Webb/`Sgt. Joe Friday’ on the TV show Dragnet’ usually wore dark trousers because they hid gun oil stains better than lighter colors.
My gun belt sits slightly above my hips.
Like I said earlier, when I’m wearing my work pants with all of my tools and other junk on my belt, there’s no sag.
I think I need to find some slacks that are more reinforced at the hips, or go with the suspenders.
I do the black trousers because of that, and I’m color blind, and don’t want to go through the hassle of, “Does this shirt match these pants,” crap. Black goes with anything.
