My brother has fun with the telemarketers. Oh you can consolidate your credit cards with this special offer! Really he says and they go into their pitch and he will say this all sounds really great. Then they will say if you will just give us your bank information or a valid credit card for our fee we can begin the process.
At this point he says I would love too but my wife is very controlling and won’t let me have the numbers she has them if you want to call her and ask she will give them too you. Sure they reply what is her number and then he gives them the FBI phone number in Washington DC and says good luck with her!
A couple of times they have called back and cursed him out and he just laughs at them. Once one idiot did a three way with the FBI on the phone and he was complaining because my brother had pranked him and he wanted the FBI to arrest him. My brother says to the idiot so you want them to arrest me after you are attempting a telemarketing scam, are you really that stupid? They hung up cursing and my brother heard the person from the FBI busting a gut laughing, they said bye and hung up.
That “credit” option for Debit cards completely negates the security feature that is the PIN because all that is needed is the card number itself. Any signature will pass. I have never used a Debit card. My card doesn’t have a debit feature. I do pay it off weekly, though so I kind of operate it like a debit card with a bit more flexibility.
I've seen it done when I was working security at WM.
This person was supposedly a close friend and wanted to help me to get my due but needed help.
Problem number one: I had worked for a French Company and the format was wrong.
Problem number Two: The Company existed but the return addy was wrong.
Problem number Three: This person gave a name that was supposed related to my Grandfather, my Grandfather had Seven brothers, don't exist among any of us.
Problem number Four: My Grandfather hated the French. Quote: All the evils of the world originated in France.
I turned it over to the NH fraud agency.
I think I will myself quit using the signature feature with my debit card. Setting a pattern that my bank will then see.
In case some elderly person buys into it.
If in doubt, you can go to the website yourself and log in.
Whenever I get an email from a company that I do business with, I check the email headers and look at the link that shows up at the bottom of the screen when I mouse over the link in the email. In some cases, you actually do have to click on the email link to access your account (for instance, if you have to recover a password). So you have to be really careful.
It seems like yesterday when you pranked those people. Good times.
I got an email from James Comey the other day. I wonder if these folks realize that most Americans, even dumb Americans, know that the head of the FBI isn’t gonna send them an email.
Got robo-called a couple of weeks ago from “US Bank”.
I don’t answer calls from numbers not on my contacts list.
Message left was that my debit card had been locked. I was told to press 1 to speak to a security team member.
My card works fine.
Got a similar call a couple of years ago from Wells Fargo.
I’ve never set foot inside of a Wells Fargo Bank.
It’s sad how many folks fall for this crap.
