ESPN will lay off around 100 of its on-air and online anchors, reporters and analysts today, sources tell THE DAILY. So far, no specific names have been confirmed; they are expected to start becoming public this morning. ESPN is not announcing officially who is getting let go. Most of the people who are being laid off are not based in Bristol, which means much of the talent will learn their fate via a phone call. Execs making those calls this morning include Senior VP/Event & Studio Production Stephanie Druley, Senior VP/SportsCenter & News Rob King and Senior Coordinating Producer Seth Markman.

Sam did sack that blowhard loudmouth QB has-been whose name I am proud to say I have already forgotten. So he did one good thing.
me, too
it was painless.
I highly recommend it.

Poor guy has had a rough family situation:

Cut ESPN several years back. Can’t remember exactly when. Time zooms by so fast at my age I can’t remember how many years back anything is. The next football season we had ESPN reconnected for the season then cancelled cable. Haven’t missed it one bit. And don’t have time to watch all that’s available.
We’ve discovered some fantastic dramas on PBS that are less political than everything on regular TV.
Just bought HULU and it offers the junk that’s on regular TV. The plus side is I can watch entire seasons of what I DO like WHEN I want to watch. Such as Last Man Standing.
Big opportunity for MSNBC. Lots of “talent” looking for work means they can be hired cheap.
Good start. Sooo sick of their social-engineering work.
Ed’s a stand up guy and I do like him. Don’t think he’ll be out of work long. $20 he shows up on FOX before the season begins.
Jenille Hill and Michael Smith need to go
Leftist loons run ESPN. Anyone who holds DIsney stock (89% owner of ESPN) should be livid. Thenleftist Managment is going to run that company into the ground while screaming and ranting about leftist causes and social justice. Their core audience is so done with them. There are much better ways to watch sports these days.
ESPN = Extreme Socialist Propaganda Network
Their show is unwatchable.
Jenille Hill and Michael Smith need to go
Never in a million years. They are practically the face of MSESPN now.
Leftist loons run ESPN.
Yep. These “cuts” will most likely just be a bunch of old white guys retiring and making room for cheaper affirmative action hires. Some big names will go I expect.
This is what happens when you mix politics with sports.
Gee, you mean that business model hasn't worked out for ya? So sad...
I guess you haven't seen Undisputed.

ESPN had major layoffs in 2015, as it did two years before that, in 2013. Both times, it cut
around 300 people. This time around, the network reportedly sought to cut tens of millions of
dollars, and decided that ridding itself of big expensive contracts was the way to do it.
As ESPNs content strategy evolves and it looks to reach consumers on platforms other than
traditional cable, it expects more from its on-air people than ever before. A source at ESPN
frames the cuts this way: We are focusing on people that can be versatile and appear cross
platform. If youre making X, are you justifying that salary?
Its all about versatility.
Translation: old-school veterans that appear only on TV, and dont do much else,
may be the ones in trouble.
Thank you for sharing that article. That’s a real tear jerker. I’ve had some difficult situations in my life, but it does not compare with what he’s endured. It reminds me of an ancient Chinese proverb I’ve kept close to my heart over the years, “I had no shoes and complained, until I met the man with no feet”.
I am now officially a big fan of Ed Werder and am pulling for him.
I don’t care how liberal the network is, I can call bull_ _ _ t with the best of them.
What I despise is that it requires TV service above the standard service to get the channel.
It should come with a standard package.
It’s the money stupid, hire some bean counters to tell you the obvious if you want to get viewers back.
Yea but that’s Shannon Sharp, what do you expect.
