The Wall...or nothing at all!
News | 25 April 2017 | Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin

So many times through the years I have heard supervisors say, "You have to pick your battles." Over and over again, these people have had to decide which issues were worth a fight and which ones, in the long run, would not get the overall agenda in place.

The border wall and security is THE issue for this nation's survival. Without it, illegal aliens pour in from Latin America AND all over the world and those coming in that way will vote Democrat, leftist, liberal, immorality 99% of the time, as will their offspring. Another law that MUST be changed which coincides with this is the one giving immediate citizeship to anyone born on U.S. soil, no matter where the parents came from. That is a secondary battle.

The Democrats will choose the Wall as their last stand battle because with it, they will lose power. If the Democrats can stop that wall, the battle is over and they know it. It doesn't matter what Trump's administration does for the next four years, or perhaps even eight years if that wall is not built. The Democrats are like the communists with Mao's philosophy of having a 30+ year plan. If we don't win this issue, all of the other issues will not matter in the long run.

The Wall...or nothing at all!

It is clear that the political will to enforce border security will end as soon as President Trump leaves office. That is why the wall is necessary. It is apolitical.

Then he’d better fight for it and fight right now. If he waits until 2018 the wall will never get built.

"You have to pick your battles."

There is a name for those who don't. They're called 'Losers'.

To play Devil's Advocate (because even the Prince of Democrats deserves a lawyer), could you argue that the wall is the least useful thing we can do for border security? Walls can be torn down by ordinary people if the government will not protect them (see Berlin, November 9, 1989). Walls can be climbed or tunneled. A wall is only as useful as the will to make it effective.

Perhaps the best use for our money is ICE and judges. Round up 11 million illegals. Deport them all with orders barring them from any path to legal status or even entry into our country. If that can happen after however long they have been here, it might not be worth coming back for what could be another temporary visit. Round up the employers of those 11 million, fine them, and make it so costly that they cannot recoup the loss in a decade of exploiting future illegals. If that can happen, they may decide to hire Americans or at least legal immigrants.

As for local/state governments that protect and support those criminals, take their federal funds. No more welfare for illegals. No more sanctuary cities. Make the rest of the illegal problem so expensive for everyone that they give up and obey the law!

[Disclaimer: I am not convinced that this is the right answer. However, I also am not convinced that it is the wrong answer. I want the wall because it will make the rest of the job easier; I'm just not sure it's the best, most cost-effective option in the long run, not with all the traitors on the other side politically.]

A wall is force multiplier. Having said that an unmanned wall is indeed useless. But even if the US BP budget is cut the wall will almost make it impossible to not enforce border security.

Even if you don't care about the wall, which would be stupid in of itself, the fact that Ryan is playing political football with Trump's hallmark issue shludl give you pause. $2B is NOTHING in the big scheme of things. It is a way to neuter Trump and his supporters. Don't you see that?

I know the intent is to neuter President Trump. We finally have a real president, and the establishment does not like it. The wall is probably the right decision, but we should occasionally rethink/review our strategy. What is the best way to prevent illegals from staying for very long and from getting citizenship in the long run?

I like the idea of vigorous deportation. I like the idea of punishing the sleazy employers that hire illegals. I like the idea of having a wall to stop illegals. However, I see a trade-off, where the cost of building a wall that will be neglected by “President Democrat 2024” might be money better spent deporting 15 million illegals instead of only 2 million illegals. If the deportation order permanently bars them from reentry, that long-term change in their legal status may do more good than the wall’s short term reduction in the numbers crossing. That is especially true if (1) deportation is so quick and common that they are less interested in bothering to cross, and (2) illegals are held at the border pending their hearing rather than released to work or draw welfare while awaiting their hearings (as if people with no legal status in America even deserved a hearing).

We need both vigorous in country enforcement by ICE and a border enforced by the BP with a WALL. It's not either or it birth.

But an even bigger issue is if We the People can't get a border wall, which costs almost nothing, then truly our government is not worth saving and bring on the secession and a civil war.

The wall would prove that the government will bend to the will of the poeple and vice versa.

A concealed license to carry issued in any state is valid in all states, including NY, CA and Washington DC.

Not acceptable. Alternate proposal:

The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is all the authorization any citizen needs to buy, own, keep and carry arms anywhere in the United States. No state law may infringe upon this right.

Direct the Attorney General to prosecute illegals and seek long prison sentences followed by deportation with no possibility of legal return ever...

Prison costs money. That sort of prison must be made self-sustaining. A combination of Sheriff Joe's tents and bologna sandwiches with the old down-south P-farm system to feed 'em some vegetables they grow for themselves, and having most of them work on the wall for a few bucks a day will make the whole concept worth while.

Build that Wall. It’s the cornerstone of Trump’s agenda!

I believe you are right, for reasons you and others have articulated. I still think I was right to ask the question. First, we need to know what we expect from the wall and what its limitations are. Second, we need to know what resistance to the wall from liberals means and what resistance from RINOs means. I am very worried about our country's future. Fortunately, I'm a former Boy Scout - from back in the days when they were morally (and otherwise) straight. I will be prepared.
