Jokes aside, let it be noted that this place is in Ivy City. That's
Ivy City!!!!!! for those whose perceptions are still mired in the Old DC. Rotgut likker and public inebriation are certainly neighborhood traditions, but this is taking it seriously upscale, which is happening at an astonishing rate in some of the most unlikely places.
You read it here first: DC in the next ten years will become the first major city to boast a predominately white MLK Avenue. Old Town Anacostia is flipping. It's too close in not to. It would have flipped already except for the government run dysfunction centers, aka low-income housing projects, but it's gentrifiers who are buying the single family homes.
So that there is no confusion among the out-of-towners, Ivy City and Old Town Anacostia are two different neighborhoods. But both are notorious problem areas that few of us ever imagined we would live long enough to see turn around.

I think that the sub-text is worth analyzing:
A TRIBUTE TO THE WOMEN WHO MAKE [sic; not "MADE?!"] US WHAT WE ARE TODAY, FROM THOSE WHO FOUGHT FOR THE VOTE [sic; aren't they long dead - or are they issuing tributes from cemeteries?], AND TO END PROHIBITION [sic; it was only because of the woman vote that it was at all possible to ratify the Volstead Act and usher in that national horror known as Prohibition to begin with!], OUR SISTERS AND MOTHERS, AND WOMEN EVERYWHERE WHO SPEAK OUT, TAKE RISKS AND RAISE UP THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW. HERE'S TO YOU.

And actually I believe the sturdiest of all the grains is buckwheat. Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) is not related to wheat, as it is not a grass (Wikipedia).

They’re skunk drunk and stupid. And a bunch of baby-killing feminazis ... I wouldn’t touch their foul brew on a bet, no matter how well crafted it may be.

Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) is a plant cultivated for its grain-like seeds and as a cover crop.

Close enough for government work.
