No more format wars!

I’m fine with a standard HDTV, as most people are.

These things just need more component hookups.

OLED is the new “thing”

I have a 2015 Sony 4k 49” Smart TV.... Love it and to be honest it’s overkill.

And I thought it was all about 4K or not!

It’s a free country, and consumers can spend their money any way they wish and buy any consumer product they wish. It’s none of my business, and I certainly wouldn’t want government to tell anyone “how to live their life” and I wouldn’t take it upon myself to tell anyone “how to live their life”.

That being said, my personal opinion is that most people (myself included) have too much “stuff”. And usually too much debt — because buying all that “stuff” often costs more than you make.

Many people have turned themselves into slaves where they are tied to their jobs, bogged down by student loans, unable to retire, and pretty much miserable. Our whole society is extremely fragile due to personal debt, business debt, government debt, etc.

New standard for TV? Actually, FOUR new standards for TV? Is this something you need? Can’t enjoy “American Idol” because your 55” TV is only HDTV?? Do you need to rush out and buy the next fancy consumer electronics?

I don’t think society really gets better until people decide to get off this treadmill of chasing shiny objects. But that’s just me.

(NOTE: I no longer own a TV, so I have no idea how good these new things are: I simply don’t care.)

Reaches a point of why bother. Most of can’t tell the difference unless the tV 100 inches across.

U wrote all that I may have said. I, too, haven’t had anyTV for a while now, I surely don’t miss it.
Don’t mean to give away my age but if they bring back “the rifleman”, “Gunsmoke” “bonanza” and other westerns maybe I’ll rehook the antenna.

To be frank 4K is perfect. The picture is beautiful.

I don’t have any component hookups!

520 lines were once fine for most people.

Has OLED solved the burn in factor yet? (images get burned into the screen like logos etc)

OLED is awesome for deep rich blacks, AND for viewing at any angle- LED’s suffer from angle viewing- colors go flat- tones go flat etc-

We’re still using CRT TV- can’t beat it for viewing at any angle and deep blacks- although OLEDS I Belleville are close- maybe a little better- Reason we didn’t get OLED was because of the logo burn issue- that was years ago- and the fact that over time the colors and blacks fade a bit-

There are 4k TV’s and then there are 4K TV’s. Saw the Samsung QLED at Best Buy. It was the 7F. It blew us away with the color. Can’t imagine how good the 8F is.

I have an old TV, but notice that many shows broadcast for a wide screen picture nowadays. Often I can tell that the ends are cut off of my square shaped TV screen.

I hope I’m not missing much. Just noting that I’m way behind on the changes in TV, what with wide screen and hi def or whatever other terms which I don’t even know what they mean.

Ditto with radio broadcasting. I’ve noted some radio stations give call letters then also note they are on an HD channel. I am not familiar with that either. I only know about AM and FM. Heck I have radios for which the AM dial only goes up to 1600 kilocycles.

I know I’m behind the times on some of this but also not sure I’m missing anything. Somebody told me to ditch satellite TV and get Netflix instead. There too, I don’t know what Netflix would add to the quality of my life.

I am not worried. The big business content providers are creating GARBAGE. There is no need for me to purchase higher technologies when the programming is worse than dung.

I hope all this settles before my current TV dies. I hate format wars, I always bet wrong.

Is Sony’s TV one of those that allows Google and/or hackers to listen in on the household’s chatter?

I’m 50/50 on my format betting. I “won” with Blu-ray.

But I’m with you, I’ll sit this one out until the dust settles.
