"This is an increasingly common idea, and is not just restricted to failed presidential candidates. It is also an extremely insidious idea, for hate speech, contrary to popular belief, is not an objectively quantifiable entity.
Ones persons hate speech is anothers outspoken defense of liberty and justice. And there is no basis in the Constitution, or in the numerous Supreme Court decisions interpreting it up to now, for the claim that there is any exclusion of hate speech from First Amendment protection. The label of hate speech is a tool in the hands of the powerful that they use to stigmatize and silence the powerless.
Thats why Deans statement is so dangerous: it heralds the end of all First Amendment protection, and the criminalization of dissent..."

That sounds like hate speech bro. 😀😆😄 (I agree with you. He is is king size, steaming POS)
No, Gov. Dean, there is no hate speech exception to the First Amendment
According to him anything said by a conservative speaker is hate speech.
Tell that to the fascist snowflakes down at Berkeley.
Hillary’s hate speech is not only protected, but celebrated. When you call tens of millions of people “irredeemable” that is just plain hatred.
Thanks for the update, Justice Dean.
What’s the definition of hate speech? What level of scrutiny does the message have or get or deserve?
Poorly written or ill conceived laws becomes tools of oppression. This would be a perfect example.
While the constitution is clear, the current SCOTUS position is not totally clear. It would have to buy-in on any legislative restrictions on free speech or amend the constitution.
The 2nd amendment is there is case you didn’t hear the 1st
I remember years ago seeing a piece about the parable of the Good Samaritan, which emphasized that we had lost the sense of this appellation, which would be comparable in “our times” ( the ‘60s or so ) to the parable of the Compassionate Klansman, since “Samaritan” carried the same sort of odium in the original that “Klansman” did at that time.
That’s a great rule when you’re the one who gets to define “hate” speech.
“I think you just made fun of his disability there.”
He wouldn’t know it.

Hey, Howard. The 1st Amendment was put in place to protect unpopular speech. Its what you liberals call, ‘hate speech’, today.
Ah, yes it is Howard. Like it or not we’ve all got the right to say what we feel. And someone else has the right to agree with it, ignore it , sue you over it or take exception to what you say but we can all run our mouths if we want. You do it all the time Howie.
?
His inner Marxism is projecting. Dean is delusional and dangerous.
