Start reading when the kid is 9 months or looks at pictures..
Everynight at bedtime...start pictures.. then one word pictures and progress..
Kid will be reading by three or four years
My teen-aged sister played school with me all the time. She taught me to read by phonics and by site. She had me reading and writing by age four. She also taught me shapes, and arithmetic. My sister turned learning into a game, she was a natural teacher.
