So Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer has apologized for comparing Assad to Hitler. Why is that an invalid comparison? And why must conservatives apologize every last time anyone, anywhere gets offended?
The response should be: "Okay. Moving on now..."
They should all take lessons from Jerry Lord.
They fear bad press and don't want to be called nasty names. I thought with Trump we would start to hear a little bit of "SCREW YOU!!!" but I haven't given up yet.
Be proud of what you do.
Be proud of what you say.
If you screw up, admit it and move on.
If they hate you for what you believe, just tell them that it’s, like, their opinion, man.
But Jesus loves us anyway.
So we got that going for us.
Sadly, those two concepts appear to be outmoded in today's de-moralized culture.
On a more practical, personal level ... I long ago realized that many small apologies that people routinely make are unnecessary, even detrimental.
For example, a person about to give a presentation has a cold and "apologizes in advance" for his or her voice.
Don't do that. Everyone will understand you have a cold without your announcing it. Just get on with the presentation.

Agreed! And that’s why I was so disappointed in Spicer in this particular instance.

That’s a good point, very good point. Unfortunately, liberals take any conservative apology as a sign a weakness...something to be ruthlessly exploited.
Hitler didn’t use his tons of Sarin on the advancing Allies!
His mistake was his ignorance of a cardinal rule - only liberals are allowed to compare anyone to Hitler.

That’s correct. Hitler refused to use gas against the Allied armies. That’s probably due to the fact that Hitler was himself gassed in WW I.
So, yes, in that respect Spicer was right. Assad used gas, but Hitler did not. (This assumes that Assad used Sarin gas in the first place.)
When I saw Blitzer badgering the crap out of Spicer I was so PO’d Spicer didn’t say to him, “I have apologized were moving on. Next question dirt bag”
Really torqued me
Because conservatives dont have enough balls to realize their points of view have any validity.
It’s one thing to make a quick acknowledgement of a mistake, but Spicer made a bigger mistake by falling all over himself going on an apology tour. It greatly diminished his authority.

That’s why I was hoping Trump would appoint someone like Mark Steyn as press secretary. In this political climate, a mouthpiece isn’t good enough. Trump needs someone who can counter-punch.

When I saw Spicer is a Commander in the Nav I was thinking maybe he was apologizing because he doesn’t want his real job affecting his reserve job?

How it should be:
Conservative: I’m sorry if I have offended you.
Offended liberal: Thank you. I understand. Your apology is accepted.
How it really is:
Conservative: I’m sorry if I have offended you.
Offended liberal: You racist! Your apology is an admission of your guilt!
Conservatives apologize out of fear, not decency or honor. There is nothing honorable about apologizing when you have done nothing wrong. Mostly, conservatives end up apologizing for saying something that is true.
