Target didnt adequately assess the risk, and the ensuing backlash was self-inflicted, he told staff. Now, it was too late to reverse course.... Target picked a side and pretty much said to the rest of us that we dont matter,... Inside the company, executives predicted the backlash would die down. It didnt, and foot traffic in several markets, particularly in the South, ... Target has since said it plans to invest $7 billion to improve stores... The Maxwells have taken their business to Amazon. The ironic part, Mr. Maxwell said, is that we are now realizing that we never really needed to go to Target to begin with.... Targets business nonetheless is in a funk. Sales at stores open at least a year have declined for three straight quarters. In February, it issued a gloomy sales outlook.

. . .especially from elites that are NOT generally Target customers. . .
Heh, see my post #20. Great minds, and all that.
There some ways around the WSJ paywall.
Highlight the title.

from the search page that should have appeared, near the top, RIGHT click NEWS

Google, and other search companies, pay the providers to allow them to use their works.
YMMV: May depend on the moon phase and other variables.
This is only one of many ways to jump a paywall.
I hadn’t been to Target for decades when I took the kids in once for back to school clothes. Egads, that garbage wouldn’t last one cycle in the washing machine. We left without buying a thing. Haven’t been back since. The restroom fiasco cinched it so they’ll never see me at their door.
The fact Targets CEOs head isnt on the chopping block..
He’s an FNG, cause the last one had a massive data breach.
“Put in a single stall bathroom. Period.”
My son in law is a plumber, they need the work.
This article makes it look like top management had no idea how the item was published on its blog and have been trying to deal with it. They are the ones who wanted to make a public statement. They are lying now to make themselves look like victims of a mistake. The consciouslly chose at the highest level to commit suicide. So be it. Let them die.
WalMart, by contrast is down 4.5% from their high in the past year. They've bounced around a bit, are more or less flat for the year.
But, if Target is asked.... it's market conditions. Or weather. Or sunspots. Or anything at all, except the boycott. Even though their markets are exactly the same as Walmart's.
How about Mooch's use of Target as a societal racism example?
Michelle Obama's Example of Racism at Target Probably Wasn't Racism
I tell this story I mean, even as the first lady during that wonderfully publicized trip I took to Target, not highly disguised, the only person who came up to me in the store was a woman who asked me to help her take something off a shelf. Because she didnt see me as the first lady, she saw me as someone who could help her. Those kinds of things happen in life. So it isnt anything new.
In the context in which it appears, the First Lady seems to be claiming this incident is an example of racial bias. It comes right after a paragraph in which Mrs. Obama describes her husbands difficulties getting a cab in Chicago. The very next paragraph describes the interview as touching on the national discussion of race and racial profiling.
I can’t stand these paywalls. NYT and Wapo are at it, too.
These idiots all have compulsion/self-control issues: Just learn to STAY THE HELL OUT OF IT and count your money...geez...
Target mgmt. has been harassing Christians for a long time.
“Never give your customers the opportunity to discover they don’t need you. Target cut their own throats on that one. “
Napoleons maxim: Never interfere with the enemy when he is in the process of destroying himself.
“Then they ran off the Salvation Army kettles around Christmas. Reinforced my dislike.
Now the bathroom deal.”
I had forgotten the dissing of the Salvation Army.
Now they will purchase some writs of indulgence from the plumbing industry.
Keep the plumbers working, that’s a good thing.
Add JC Penney’s to that pile.
From a sheer #’s point of view they picked the wrong demographic to “Target”. Stunning stupidity.
An earlier report published in April 2011 by the Williams Institute estimated that 3.8 percent of Americans identified as gay/lesbian, bisexual, or transgender: 1.7 percent as lesbian or gay, 1.8 percent as bisexual, and 0.3 percent as transgender.
“I never cared for Walmart..”
Wally was not my first choice, until a late night phone call from Ohio, then things changed.
I have kin in Ohio and quickly answered.
A Walmart there had suspicions about a credit application in MY NAME! They had SSAN, mothers maiden name...
Thinking this had to be my kin having fun, I called the main number for Wally in Bentonville, Ak.
THEY COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE HELPFUL!
It was a man made disaster, but Wally was a big help.
My wife spent 100’s of hours cleaning it up.
On vacation, the waiter returns with my creditcard, I need to call them...
We would get bills for stuff delivered into the ghetto with the address...Only Texas cops wanted to nail them.Ten people live at the address and nobody knows nothing.
Had a routine medical test done at the local hospital, they needed SSAN, mothers maiden name...A news article about a gang working inside the same hospital, glomming names and numbers?
Now Wally is high on my list.
Naked Bostonian ‘tackled and tried to rape woman inside a restroom at a Las Vegas resort’
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4384956/Boston-man-arrested-Las-Vegas-Strip-hotel-rape-case.html
There is an important nugget inside the article:
Inside Target, executives analyzing the impact found that conservative families were angriest. Among moderates, white males were most angeredwhich the chain took as reassuring, given that its core customer is female.
There it is in print, in the Wall Street Journal, that Target Corporation doesn't care about the opinions of white males.
