Hope you enjoy. Hello Walls
Music *ping*
Did you ever hear Willie nelson tell about when that song was written???
Young, Nelson, Waylon jennings and another coming singer were all living together in Nashville before any hit it big...
They would try newly written songs out on each other...
Faron Young wrote that and sang it to them....
Willie Nelson said they all walked around the house for the next several days saying, “Hello, bathroom...” “Hello, kitchen...” “Hello chair...” etc...
He said they laughed about it, but all got egg on their faces when it was recorded.....
Good song. I had a second cousin who was a minor country western performer, and I believe my mother said he used to be an opening act for Faron Young.
I always liked the Willie Nelson version.
Great story! Thanks for the laugh this morning.
Pure Country...
Willie wrote the song while left alone in a room. Hank Cochran got Willie a job as a songwriter for $50 a week.
He put Willie in a room and left him there. Willie looked at the walls and sang, “hello walls”. He sang that until another line came and finally got the song written.
Hank came back and Willie played him the song, saying it was “silly”. Hank said, that’s a hit, and it was.
(From Willie’s book, “It’s A Long Story”.
Hotrod Shot Gun Boogie #2--Tilman Franks & His Timberline Riders
This Faron Young song, which is one of hundreds that Willie Nelson penned, and delivered by Faron in his superlative phrasing style. it is hard to know if Willie later pattered his similar style after Faron but if you listen to Faronâs delivery you can substitute in Willie very nicely. Faron was a great performer with a great voice, timing, and delivery.
Cue up old Mike Hoyer on Coast-to-Coast 1040 WHO Radio.
I heard Willie tell the story I put in on a TV show...Maybe he made it up, but he told it on air and got a lot of laughs....
Here’s the video...I was wrong though...It’s Faron Young telling the story...
