The mighty Duke Blue Devils, one week ago crowned ACC tournament champions and discussed as a probable No. 1 seed, were handed a a stunning loss on Sunday night to the feel-good South Carolina Gamecocks, a team that hadn't won an NCAA tournament game since 1973 and had never seen the Sweet 16. The ACC blue blood losing to the SEC also-ran was surprising enough, but even more so given that SC was 7-35 from the floor at halftime with the game playing out just as everyone expected. Then, out of nowhere, the Gamecocks shot 71% in the second half and nearly tripled its first-half point total. Frank Martin's smothering brand of defense rattled Duke players, who couldn't hit an open jump shot in the final 12 minutes and then began to panic once South Carolina took a seven-point lead with 8:53 left, en route to what ended up being an easy 88-81 victory.

Step son is a Duke law graduate, his wife is a Gamecock post grad working on her PHD. Should make for interesting conversation at their breakfast table.
I might have believed that is he had simply kept his mouth shut about North Carolina’s “bathroom law” — HB-2.

As I recall they as a #2 lost to Lehigh as a #15. Clearly that was a bigger upset.

I didn’t know Duke lost! I was reading “Is this the worst NCAA Tournament?” and going “YES” because it was just the same old basketball factories moving on without any upsets.
So the whiny, privileged Dookies are gone. We still have the whiny, privileged UK Wildcats, the whiny, privileged KU Jayhawks and the whiny, privileged and cheating UNC Tar Babies around to pick up the trophy.
They make such a big fuss about 68 teams yet, in most years, it’s one of the same handful of factories. NCAA basketball has become really stale. For the first time this year, I didn’t even bother with the brackets.

I watched a fair amount of basketball this past weekend. I was left with the impression the referees really wanted those whiny, privileged schools to win.
I don’t care who Duke lost to, only that they lost.
Oh, and I *still* can’t stand Laettner.
I heard an item on the news this morning that the Wildcats had been stomped by Gonzaga.
