Nope, distinctly 'Coco'. For example in Puerto Rico, it is a cute nickname. In Colombia you don't call people that. :)

So may Spanish speaking nations and so much slang.

In Afro-influenced areas it's likely a nickname as well. Not so much elsewhere.
