OAKLAND The NBA has fined Andre Iguodala $10,000 for racially charged comments he made after Fridays loss to Minnesota.
The comments came about when Iguodala was asked if Steve Kerr informed him if he and other star players would be sitting out Saturday against the Spurs.
Nope, no clue, Iguodala replied. I do what master say.
Kerr downplayed the cryptic comments Saturday in San Antonio, telling reporters on site, You just got Andred.
Iguodala was asked to clarify the comments Monday at practice.
It was probably the wrong time to express myself, Iguodala said. We all have our own opinions. We all have our own feelings. I feel like youre entitled (inaudible) when you try and pick and choose the times between who you share with. Because some may not understand where you are coming from, which is to be expected.
I feel like its the wrong time because it puts my team in that situation, my coaching staff in that situation. I have a great relationship with Steve Kerr. And he knows that. He spoke to you guys about it. You know what I mean? Even his words still may not be someone still might not believe him. But he and I are in a great place. We dont even have to speak about it.
Seems like much about nothing.
another “look at me, I’m a 12 million a year slave story,”
Agree. The perpetually offended clutching their pearls and needing smelling salts.
I agree. That’s a silly reason for such a high fine.
Just the other day, some player got fined over $20K for pointing at another player while using a ‘finger gun’!
I don’t even pay much attention to most sports, but I thought that was ridiculous. A misuse of authority.
If this particular player had a poor relationship
history with the coach or a general attitude problem
you might have a point.....but he doesn’t. He is known
to put some reporters through an exercise or two at
the start of an interview and his humor can be cryptic
but he is a decent sort as NBA players go. The
consequence that the NBA office directed might change
things a bit, however. It would bother me for sure.
This is the NBA just being dumb. Fining him 10k for nothing.
I used to like him - lost a lot of respect for him after those moronic statements.
Lost respect for Steve Kerr as well for not having the balls to defend himself after getting insulted, and instead mealy mouthing his way around it.
Cecil B. DeMille said the same thing a bit more elegantly: “He who eats my bread, sings my song.”
I would think losing to Minnesota would be punishment enough.
Hard to live that one down.
Why this is terrible! Saying such a thing about good progressive Steve Kerr is unforgivable. Black men are not supposed to turn on their progressive patrons. Doesn’t he know that?
