Winter Storm Stella is going to slam New York City(snowpocalypse)

Get out now while you still have the chance!

A blizzard warning has been issued for New York City and much of the tri-state area beginning at midnight Tuesday as Winter Storm Stella threatens to dump as much as 18 inches of snow.

Whiteout conditions are expected to make travel extremely dangerous and power outages are likely amid crippling wind gusts of 20 to 40 mph, according to AccuWeather senior meteorologist Tom Kines.

New Yorkers stockpile supplies as massive snowstorm looms.

“Travel will be poor at best, if not impossible,” Kines told The Post on Monday. “If you have the option tomorrow of staying put, I would definitely recommend that. And if you try to fly by air tomorrow, forget it — not happening.”

The blizzard warning — which will be in effect for 24 hours — will cover New York City and Long Island as well as Fairfield, Westchester, Rockland, Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Union, Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Snow will begin around 3 a.m. and continue throughout Tuesday before tapering off in the evening, Kines said.

The city is expected to get at least a foot of snow and 16 to 18 inches could get dumped on western and northwestern areas of the city. Eastern Long Island could be spared with just 6 to 8 inches.

Lovely you take it so lightly.

You want to shovel a couple of feet of snow? Guess you’re in better shape and younger than I am, because I sure don’t. As I said earlier, I don’t like the prospect of the power going out and being unable to even get somewhere that the power ISN’T out. But I guess I’m just “scared and stupid.”

As for the whole thing turning to rain... well, not here. I just checked and they upgraded it to a blizzard alert and still forecast 18-24 inches of snow. I hope they’re wrong.

You know when I worked at Rock Plaza I was 250. I’m 5 foot 11 inches.

I would walk from Rock Plaza to the ferry terminal every night (I worked off hours).

Most peaceful hour and a half of the day.

But now I’m PAST 250 and 12 years older!!!

Time to get moving or get buried!!

you are right. Shoveling snow is more dangerous than it looks.

Trump fired Obama’s U.S. Attorney! It’s the end of the world as we know it!

Bernie Sanders was right. Global climate change makes people angry. Which makes Mother Nature even more pissed. It’s quite the elaborate cycle. Do you know how many NYers will turn to terrorism because of this blizzard?? Which in turn will make the weather start warming up uncontrollably.

If it’s a sleet snow mix like is forecast for DC it’s very heavy and dense. Tough to drive in it with a decent amount of accumulation, can’t just drive right through it like with snow, it’s dense enough to offer some resistance. A lot more work to shovel, too.

In watching the Hanover PA. eagles nest for several years, I am worried. The eggs are to hatch in the next few days and it looks like the nest is right in the storms path.

I’m getting it to.

I grew up in the Midwest where we get a foot of snow. If we don’t move it, in three days, it’s 6” of solid ice for the next two-three months.

On the East Coast, we get hammered by snow and most of it is gone in a few days.

It’s a big hassle for a few days but not much more.

If you lose power frequently, you should consider a generator. A Coleman propane lantern will light and heat a room. One can of gas lasts 5-8 hours. (be sure to ventilate the room.

Grab some sleeping bags and have a campout in one room.

You can cook on a Coleman stove or the grill, if you can find it.

If the water goes out, drain your hot water tank. Instant 40 gallons.

Toilets can be flushed by gravity. Fill the tank with water or lots of snow. When it hits a certain weight, it flushes.

I’m older too and don’t relish shoveling, but like I said, it’s gone in a few days.

Walmart has the lanterns for under $30.

We did something like this when I was a kid.

My mother chained a toboggan to a jeep and we flew around the neighborhood!

then a damned busybody called the cops...

1” in Boston paralyzes the city. I can’t imagine what it’s like in NYC. Bald tires, narrow streets, stoopid people, people leaving their cars abandoned. Joy.

In college, we would make extra pocket change walking from campus to Kenmore Sq., pushing cars out of an inch of snow. Good times.

I know how they feel.

It's so cold down in southeast Georgia that we had to mostly close the windows.
