I worked in high school, no time for a social life.
I didn’t work when school was in session but did summers and the longer holidays. I suppose I was sort of an island because I lived away from people, closest neighbor being a half mile away and the only kids my age a substantial walk or bike ride away. I was comfortable on my own, with my dogs. The art of conversation wasn’t something I appreciated all that much until it became really necessary.
