We already know that Venus is not habitable by we humans. Pray tell why we are spending this money (lots, no doubt) to gather information that will be of no use to us.

More interesting would be to learn how old Venus is exactly - since
I. Velikovsky correctly predicted surface conditions back in the 50's when everyone else thought it might be some Earth twin with jungles and all. He claimed that Venus really emerged from Jupiter in human memory (the Greek/Roman legend of the birth of Venus). Age might tell.
