CHICAGO (CBS) Politicians are pushing back against the planned closing of a CVS pharmacy within the next month on the west side of Chicago.
WBBMs Nancy Harty reports.
State Representative Melissa Conyears-Ervin and other elected officials stood in front of a CVS store at Madison and Kedzie Sunday morning to denounce the move. Her husband, Alderman Jason Ervin, said the case was a travesty and that it amounts to theft.
We have enough challenges and problems in this community, and we dont need to have the fact that our seniors cannot get their basic medicine anywhere in East or West Garfield Park, he said.
Ervin said Chicago gave the drugstore $1 million in tax breaks to open at the East Garfield Park location about five years ago. He added that hes having the citys lawyers look at any reimbursement the company may owe Chicago.
Conyears-Ervin said its unacceptable that CVS has not informed customers of its plans to close within a month. She also said a family-owned pharmacy that used to be located across the street closed after CVS moved in. That means seniors and other customers will have to travel farther to fill prescriptions.
Because CVS opened, it pushed out our Ma and Pa pharmacy, she said.

East Garfield and Englewood neighborhoods are ground zero for Chicago’s murder and crime spree.
Of coursed they all volunteered to work there to keep the store open, right?
But there was certainly no theft in Ferguson.
that million $ tax credit though....
Story does not mention number of robberies. So I’m pretty sure there were none.
Politicians are such good businessmen. They don’t have a clue about running a private business. What chumps and pimps. They probably had kickbacks to their crappy campaigns from the $1,000,000.00 “tax break”. Criminals and fools.
They got off easy. New Haven gave Macy’s $10 million to stay in downtown New Haven. They stayed for two or three years and then left once the ink on the check was dry.
Never trust a woman with a hyphenated last name.
CC
That has been almost always true, in my experience.
Caterpillar should be paying very close attention to this....
Or a man with a hyphenated last name for that matter.
Ultimately they are going to demand Tax-Payer supported government-run stores in The Hood.
Just keep voting for Demonrats, everything on the plantation will be fine.
that million $ tax credit though....
A decently written contract with tax credits would require repayment if certain terms were not meant by CVT.
“State Representative Melissa Conyears-Ervin and other elected officials stood in front of a CVS store at Madison and Kedzie Sunday morning to denounce the move.”
But had no time to stand in front of the crooks and thugs that make the move a necessity to denounce them.
ground zero for Chicagos murder and crime spree.
But the article doesn’t say anything about crime, I am sure it is a non issue./s
Successful businesses don;t close.
Why are they closing? This author seems to have left that out.
Also, this is what happens when the government gives ‘tax breaks’ to one company without giving it to all companies. The ma and pa store closed, and now this one is closing probably AFTER pocketing a nice chunk of government money.
