Spring Fashion "informed" by Liberal Angst? Dare to wear spring colors! (vanity)
vanity | 2/26/17 | Vanity

An ardent liberal friend asked me if I had seen the colors and fashions scheduled to be sold for Spring 2017? She remarked that they were unlike any she'd seen before and that she was stunned at how much of the clothing features black, grey, white, beige etc. Normally, the season features colorful, cheerful tones to enliven the season. That made me wonder if the fashion industry is not satisfied with it's initial protest of the Trump presidency. Initially, they canceled their traditional parties etc. I thought then that they just might done sack-cloth and ash. It might well be that they simply designed sack-cloth for the rest of us to wear....until the Dems return to office. Have a look yourself. I find orange and red clothing that is muted with brown or grey so that they resemble autumn colors. I see some navy clothing and dull blue denim but again, those aren't traditional colors. On this Macy's link, scroll down and see how much black clothing there is, "new" for spring!

Here's another link from Elle.com for spring fashion:

http://www.elle.com/fashion/trend-reports/g28728/spring-2017-fashion-trends/

This kind of reminds me of an old commercial joking about a Soviet Union fashion show wherein a careworn looking woman stalks down the catwalk in prison grey kerchief and skirt/blouse ensemble, shining a large flashlight around her as if patroling a fence while an announcer haughtily says, "Evening wear...." (pronouncing "wear" as "ver" to imply an accent)

Well - I could be wrong about the color conspiracy but if I am not, I just want to remind FReepers that it's possible to import fabrics of all hues should you not feel like following the possible color protest fashion dictates of the left. Sewing is becoming a lost art - time to find it? Oh WHAT would happen if people just wore what they wanted? :)

Here in Western Washington state the women wear black, grey, brown and off-white all year round.

Don’t know why that it is since it is so grey here one would think that bright colors would appeal.

No one will notice if they wear drab protest colors as they do that every year, every decade.

Well, it’s noticeable that hardly any of them are smiling or looking happy.

You do realize that those clothes were picked by the buyers months ago - perhaps they were planning on Hillary’s election in which case the whole country would be in mourning? Lots of dark clothing this past winter too - I suspect just a cycle.

The 2017 Spring line was complete long before Trump was elected.

“”...were planning on Hillary’s election in which case....””

Yhe Mao colors would be appropriate.

Goodie. Fashion thread. I was a little irritated with Vera Bradley putting out a Cuban themed pattern, but I could be over sensitive.

I like seeing women in bright spring colors. Especially in sunshine. Makes me smile and want to bow...

Odd. I worked in Manhattan for 20 years and never really noticed the colors, too busy on the legs :)

But now that I think of it, dark was the norm.

I still have whiplash from walking around during lunch :)

Under Franco, the communists wore black, especially the men. When Franco died and power shifted to the left, they started wearing more colorful clothes.

I do wear what I want.

I’m old enough to have learned to not care what others think of how I dress and I’m willing to sacrifice style for comfort any day.

That said, I am interested in checking out Ivanka’s line to see if there’s anything classy.

I’m not into potato sacks and won’t wear drab, boring colors.

By “wear what you want to” I was thinking of the way that the fashion industry drives what is produced, and a way that interested parties could step outside industry offerings and buy what they have not condoned. By purchasing hi-quality imported fabrics and designing/sewing some items, I was able to avoid pumpkin orange/brown ensembles overpopulating the retail industry one year. Looking at what’s available thus far, I may do it again.

I sew a lot as well but not clothes so much any more.

I’ll wear stuff from last year before going with some hideous new color that will be out by next season.

I will continue to shop at LL Bean as well.

For $500 bucks you can look like you live under an overpass and smell like a MacDonald’s dumpster soaked in urine.

I always thought that his fashion line looked more like people out of a post apocalyptic war whore zone.
Yours brings such imagery and odors into the picture.
