Dump the nice ones and keep the snobs ?
It’s been a few years for me, but Aeroflot was a GREAT alternative to the US Majors (circa 2000-2010) to Eastern Europe, Middle East, Central Asia, at a much lower cost.
Boeing and Airbus long-haul aircraft, and in-flight staff that seemed genuinely glad for your business, at a VERY reasonable price, especially in Biz Class. Connecting in Moscow could be a crap-shoot, from Customs to lost bags to delays, but then, so is JFK, LHR, or MIA anymore.
Did Toronto to India twice that way.
They need to do something. I avoid Aeroflot at all costs, my worse flight ever.

They’re mostly Airbus, but have some Boeing 737’s and 777’s (long flights).
787’s are on order.
Decades of teaching USAF UPT. . .the BEST female pilot I ever saw was “good,”. . .not excellent, not brilliant, not highly skilled. Just plain good.
On my Aeroflot flight, one engine went out. So the stews gave out balloons, and we were supposed to blow them up, and hold on to them out the window while they deflated, to make up for the reduced thrust of the lost engine.
Then, upon approach for landing, a wheel fell off tearing a large part of the floor off with it, and the passengers in those seats were given fresh tennis shoes and told to run when the landing happened, to serve as the missing wheel.
True story.
787s were cancelled in 2015.
Aeroflot Scraps $4.8 Billion 787 Purchase in Boeing Show Setback
This sort of reminds me of the old joke about the Soviet Playboy Club where they spared no expense to have only the best of everything including the “bunnies” who were all loyal members of the Party for at least 40 years!
Well... I guess my Aeroflot flights were not really all that bad.
Yeah, I’d be more tempted to fly more if the airlines used hot straight male attendants, strong enough to ward off terrorists. ;)
She looks like an attractive 50ish. When I flew on Mexicana and JAL the attendants were all young and attractive. On US airlines the average age looks about 50 with a minimum age at 35.
Our flight deck door is open while people board and when they see me in that right seat most of them say “Right on” - I love making those announcements on the PA knowing there’s some mussies on board.
So many things wrong with this post:
1) 1989 called and wants their geopolitics back...they aren't commies anymore.
2) This isn't government micromanaging, it is the management of Aeroflot doing so, like management of most any corporation (state owned or not) would in order to improve competitiveness.
3) "Big government" is not a term you typically hear used to describe the RF.
In my opinion, the message we should be getting from this is how awesome it is that Russians don't believe in political correctness.
P.S. Aeroflot stewardesses are INCREDIBLE! I've been all over the world and NYC-Moscow on Aeroflot is one of my favorite routes of all time.
Awesome. My fantasy job — one of them -— is pilot. Only in my dreams. Enjoy.
As the pilots call them, “grannys and grandes”
Not to mention the service simply cannot be beat.
