This is a photo of Harrison Ford landing on the taxiway Monday at John Wayne Airport ... and the person who took the pic says the actor was totally out of position seconds before he touched down.
The man who shot the photo had just arrived on a commercial flight and was looking out the terminal window waiting for a friend, when he saw Ford's plane coming in for a landing. He tells TMZ Ford had "completely misjudged the runway" and was not in position to land. The man grabbed his phone to snap a pic, thinking the pilot might crash, when Ford "banked really sharp." He says the plane was "very close to the ground" when it banked and "hit hard" on the taxiway seconds later. You see the ramp agent in the photo ... he seemed "shocked," according to the guy who took the pic.
The eyewitness account differs from the story that's being told that Ford simply mistook the taxiway for the runway.
There is no excuse for this other than a cognitive problem. He needs to hang up flying. With the bars and the chevrons there is nothing more obvious than the runway markings.
Thanks for posting that - it adds dimension to the report. No more flying for you Indy!
Looks like 97% of commenters think the article is about Harrison Ford. 2% think it’s about Michael Douglas. 1% about John Travolta.
Oh man, that is him. I deal with Alzheimer’s every day (mom). Everyone hates having their keys taken away. But HARRISON FORD - a major international star - this is going to be hard for him. Calista sadly needs to step in to save him from major humiliation and especially with the plane to save the lives of others. He may not believe he has Alzheimer’s.
He may need to be medicated for a while if he is fighting everything. How sad is that? Mom was always packing her suitcase to “run away” when she first found herself in a needing caregivers situation. She would pack underwear, bathing suits, and pictures off the wall. She would be screaming mad that she had nothing wrong with her and she was leaving.
We hid all the suitcases, but we also put her on an antidepressant, which stabilized her worst moods, and used an Ativan for any bad moments. Now that she is farther down the trail, the antidepressant alone keeps her mostly pretty cheery. It is a gift to someone with dementia to take the bad moods away. They cannot do anything about their condition. Better to enjoy the day, watching a show, petting a dog, coloring, doing puzzles, eating. There is no “freedom” in allowing Harrison to put others at risk.
Or a vision problems. Maybe he can star in a Mr. McGoo remake.
He should hang it up or have an instructor with him at all times. And what the heck is he doing going to John Wayne Airport? That place is busy with jets and a PITA.
I deal with it, too - my Mom. Harrison has some classic symptoms.
I’m not really sure to be honest. Deficiencies in either cognitive or depth perception are very dangerous to the pilot and anyone else in the landing areas.
The average person is eager to have other issues to ponder and worry about besides what’s going on in the White House (I know I am!). Harrison will probably get an enormous amount of attention for this matter, more than his previous mishaps received.
I just watched that movie again last week...hilarious!
I don’t think it is a depth perception problem at all...it is a procedural problem-he landed on a taxiway!
Not that nobody has ever NOT done that before, but it is a big screw up. Just imagine if a jetliner had been taxiing on it.
Lawn chair guy! Ah, such memories.
I heard he had trouble landing on the Death Star. I heard they had to use a tractor beam to guide him in. But he did arrive in record parsects.
It isn’t to say you can’t have two issues, mistaking the taxiway for the runway AND having a crappy landing.
There is no excuse for this other than a cognitive problem.
...
I hope they tested him for ethanol.
Previous reporting had Ford radioing tower asking if there was supposed to be a jet on that runway he just passed over to land...
doubt he would have radioed that if he was in a last second maneuver to find a safe landing spot.
I guess he thought he could squeeze it into tight places as if he were flying the Millennium Falcon
